What are the odds of a Malaysian born person becoming someone with authority in foreign countries?
Odds of it, normally it&rsquo;s unlikely but in this case, this man here has achieved the unthinkable. Well, its only unthinkable to Malaysians knowing how our member of parliament system works am I right?

Meet Sam Lim, 60, who was born in Muar, Johor and had worked as a dolphin trainer before he moved to Australia in 2002. As most of us may have known from the media, the 2022 Australia election had taken place on 21 May 2022.

Sam is now a member of parliament (MP) of the seat of Tangney in Western Australia. With his new seat, he will be joining fellow Australian Labor Party senator Penny Wong who is Australia&rsquo;s new foreign minister. Fun fact, she too is Malaysian born which shows that the parliament there has an increasingly diverse parliament.
Speaking of diversity, in the nearby Western Australian electoral division of Moore, Ian Goodenough who was born in Singapore had also hung onto his seat under the Liberal Party.
Won against the odds

It was reported that Lim had overturned a 9.5% margin from the 2019 election to defeat Liberal Party MP Ben Morton. Tangney was considered a safe seat for the Liberal Party as they have won the seat in every election since 1984
During his interview, Lim talked about how tough life was for him and his family as he was one of eight children growing up in a poor family.
"We had to struggle for the first 15 years of my life was the family home had a leaky roof, a dirt floor and no running water or electricity. But that 15 years built me up to today. When I had to fight to win this seat, I utilised all that determination that I gained in the first 15 years of my life and I achieved it,&rdquo; said Lim.
Always dreamt of being a police man

As a child, he dreamed of becoming a police officer. Unfortunately, at the time in Malaysia, the pay was low, and he had resorted to becoming a dolphin trainer instead.

In a report by the Sydney Moring Herald, Lim described the job as his best job ever. He loved it as dolphins are genuine and will never hurt you. Even if you were to fall in the water, the dolphin will come to comfort you.
Unfortunately, his dream job had to end as creditors had taken over the safari park he was working at, and he eventually started a small business which showed good success.

Once he&rsquo;s earned enough, he had migrated to Australia with his family and fulfilled his life long dream of becoming a police officer as he joined the Western Australia Police Force.
If you&rsquo;re having trouble, he&rsquo;s the one to look for as he speaks 10 different languages. He&rsquo;s put it to good use during the pandemic as well while working with multicultural communities during the pandemic.
All the hard work paid off as he was also awarded Officer of the Year at the Nine News Police Excellence Awards in December 2020 for his role during the pandemic.
Now the next journey in life awaits him and he hopes that his efforts will allow for the Labor Party to stay there for the next 45 years.
It&rsquo;s always nice to see someone who&rsquo;s Malaysian born to make it up there. Hopefully Lim will bring our name proud down in the land down under!

Meet Sam Lim: From Dolphin Trainer & Policeman To Becoming An MP In West Australia

It seems like lately since the pandemic is now over, many people have been falling for scams all over the place. And it seems like either that their ads are left via flyers around an office or home or victims fall prey to ads they see on social media.
Recently, a netizen had shared her unfortunate experience as she got scammed by a cleaning company called Premium Cleaning Service on Facebook.

In a report by Sin Chew Daily, the woman had claimed that she was redirected to a WhatsApp link indicating a business account. From there, the person manning the account had replied a set of instructions to follow which had led her into getting scammed.
The scam happened so quick that you wouldn&rsquo;t even notice

In the ad provided by the WhatsApp account, it stated that there&rsquo;s a discount package for customers. 1 maid cleaning is RM70 for 4 hours and 2 maids at RM90. Both offers had a RM10 discount over the original price.
As she woman enquired more about the service, the company insisted that it is only applicable if the woman reserves the cleaning service via a mobile application called MyShop which has &ldquo;apparently&rdquo; been used by many. The account even convinced the woman that companies such as Hero market and Healthland had used it for over a year.

The company then provided her a screenshot of how to download the app + its link. The woman was even required to pay a RM20 deposit fee when downloading it. Naturally, she had followed all the steps as she wanted the cleaning service and she picked out her preferred timeslot.
During the payment process for the deposit, the app had lead her to a banking website but it had failed to process the transfer due to the system being &ldquo;under maintenance&rdquo;. After showing the screenshot to the person, they requested her to wait for a while. The lady had even tried two different bank accounts to pay for the service and that&rsquo;s where it hit her as this was a scam.
She had received a message from her bank stating that there was a transfer recently and to her shock, all her money in her savings account was gone. She then immediately informed the bank of what happened and froze her account and subsequently made a police report on the matter.
According to the bank, the money was transferred to a CIMB account belonging to a man named Mohamad Badrul Bin Aziz.
Authorities and Bank Negara Malaysia warns public on scams
Lately, many Malaysians have been victims of scams and Bank negara Malaysia had issued out a warning to help educate Malaysians to not easily trust these messages on Facebook.

Penang Woman's Savings Wiped Cleaned, Victim To Cleaning Company Ad Scam

Throughout the years, Netflix has released a number of successful shows, and it seems like this year is just as jam packed, with new and original series being released nonstop. As on June 24 2022, the first 6 episodes for the South Korean version of the Spanish heist drama was officially released, however with an entirely different storyline.

&lsquo;Money Heist: Korea- Joint Economic Area&rsquo; is an original Netflix series starring actors Yoo Jitae, Park Haesoo, Jeon Jongseo, Lee Hyunwoo, Lee Wonjong and Park Myunghoon. It is set in the same fictional universe as the original Spanish version, however it depicts a completely different narrative, making the series more of a crossover rather than a remake of the popular Spanish drama.
The first title announcement was first released in January 18 2022, with a thrilling video of the criminal mastermind, also known as &ldquo;The Professor&rdquo;, choosing between a variety of disguising masks, in which soon we discover that he will end up choosing the eye-catching Hahoe masks, a representative mask that all Korean citizens know, making it the ultimate mask suited for the project.&nbsp;

Many familiar aspects to the original &lsquo;Money Heist&rsquo; can still be found in the Korean series, as the main plotline still involves a mysterious criminal who recruits a group of thieves to help him rob a bank, however this time, it involves a hostage crisis situation happening in the now unified Korean Peninsula in the year of 2025, specifically in the Mint which is located in the Joint Economic Area (JEA), a &nbsp;common ground for both Korean jurisdictions.
Of course the series also maintained its original &lsquo;Money Heist&rsquo; characters, even going as far as maintaining some of their original physical and personality traits, however there are major evident alterations in the characters&rsquo; backgrounds in order to become more Koreanized.

Yes, you read that right. If you are a big fan of the series, or maybe even wondered how it feels like to be a part of a heist just like the one in the show, well now is your chance to actually experience it in real life.

Netflix’s Original Crossover “Money Heist: Korea” Is Officially Out

Travelling as a family can be one of the most joyful things in the world but sometimes when an incident happens, it can leave everyone devastated as you&rsquo;ll lose a big part of your life right before your eyes.
Recently an accident had happened where a 37-year-old mother and her two young sons were found after their Proton Persona had plunged into Sungai Muda near Kuala Ketil, Baling.

The victims were identified as Mashitoh Ibrahim (35), Mohd Ziyad Zikri (7) and Mohd Ziyad Haziq (5) said the Baling district police chief Shamsuddin Mamat.
Missing and feared to have drown since 25 June
The family had initially went missing on 25 June and the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had received a distress call of a car plunging into a river at 6.42pm with multiple eye witnesses.
Five personnel from the JBPM were dispatched on a rescue boat to locate the victims while several boat owners from a nearby village had assisted to look for the vehicle. Due to the waters moving fast at the time, it was difficult to locate it despite using the &ldquo;grappling iron&rdquo; technique.
A witness said that he and his friends who were fishing nearby at the time attempted to help when they saw the car plunge in the river but the strong currents had stopped them from doing so.
Search and rescue team finally finds the missing vehicle

After searching for hours, the search and rescue team (SAR) had finally located the car on the river bed which was 7.6 meters deep at 1.41am.
Due to the car being deep underwater, a crane had been deployed at 2.53am to lift out the car. It was later successfully fished out by 3.30am.

The incident had left the family in shock said her younger brother Mohd Asyraf Ibrahim. Mashitoh is a religious teacher at SK Kampung Selarong in Kuala Ketil.

Looks like news of Malaysians getting rescued from syndicates in Myanmar is getting more traction. In the past months, a few Malaysians have been rescued and it&rsquo;s suspected that many more are still trapped.

Recently two Malaysian teenagers had finally returned safely from Myanmar after being deceived by human trafficking syndicates over three months ago. The two boys are 14 and 15 years old and are from Bera, Pahang finally arrived back in Malaysian soil on 24th June after settling various documentations.

The syndicates had initially been paid ransom money by the boys&rsquo; families and were released on 2 April 2022 after the syndicates could not find any use of them due to failing to reach their targets.
Fell for job scam via social media
As the economy is pretty tough lately, the 15-year-old victim said that he was initially attracted to the high paying job which was advertised on Facebook and Instagram.
The position offered was a customer service job which offered RM5,000 and RM7,000 pay.
&ldquo;The high salary is very attractive because I also want more freedom. My friend and I were taken to Myanmar on 22 March, where we were detained at the compound in Marwadi,&rdquo; said the 15-year-old when talking at a press conference organized by MCA Public Service and Complaints Department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong at Wisma MCA.

The boy had only became aware of the situation when the syndicates forced them to work for a transnational scam syndicate who had allegedly stole millions of dollars from victims.
The boys were even given a booklet on what to talk about in order to scam victims. The victims had also matched the description of a previous syndicate victim&rsquo;s description where they target those from China.
The two boys had worked from noon till midnight daily and were monitored by armed guards who were tightly watching over the syndicates compound. They were also given around RM900 food allowance and lived in a room of six people.
According to the boy, there were many people in the compound and it also included other Malaysians. Those who fail to do their job will be punished as well as being cheated. Thankfully the two boys had escaped the punishment as they were still young.

As the boys had worked for about a week, the two had failed to reach any set targets set by the syndicates and they had appealed to their &ldquo;boss&rdquo; to release them. Their release was only successful as the family had paid the random money to the syndicates.
Expensive ransom demand
Cheong had mentioned that the syndicates had demanded 300,000 yuan (~RM198,951) from the families of the two boys. As the price was a lot, the families had also negotiated over the phone which resulted in the syndicate lowering the amount.
Due to worry of media coverage, the boys were brought over to Thailand and was placed in a hotel in the border town of Mae Sot.
The friend of the syndicate had taken care of the boys there as he manages their food and accommodation while the documentation to return back to Malaysia with the Thai and Malaysian authorities were being done.
Once the boys returned to Bangkok, they were placed in an Immigration detention centre while their documents were being prepared and after only 3 weeks the documentation was completed with the assistance from the Malaysian Embassy in Thailand.
Currently, there&rsquo;s reports stating that there are 78 reports of Malaysians being cheated abroad by syndicates and involved 63 men and 15 women. So far, only 15 of them had returned home safely.

It is a time for celebration of all the academic accomplishments, to acknowledge the students for successfully completing their tiring journeys and finally getting their hard earned education degrees.

However, this big moment was particularly even more special and heart-warming for this 65-year-old mother, as she steps on stage on the behalf of her late daughter.
On Sunday, Cheng Lak Mooi was moved to tears as she hears the name of her late daughter Ng Yi Ming, who was called to posthumously receive her doctorate at the 23rd Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) convocation ceremony. The mother walks up on stage to accept her daughter&rsquo;s scroll from the Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on the morning of June 26.
&ldquo;I am very happy to be able to fulfil the wishes of my late daughter to attend and receive the scroll on her behalf, '' Cheng said.

Ng Yi Ming was awarded the PhD in Psychology from UMS, after previously obtaining her Bachelor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology from the same university, and her Master of Science in Child Development Psychology from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
"She was a very diligent and very tenacious person. We are very proud of her as she managed to do well academically despite suffering from a heart condition," Cheng said.
According to her mother, Ng Yi Ming had made her PhD presentation on January 21st 2021 and was given three months to correct her thesis, however she was not able to do so, as she took her last breath on February 21st 2021, after battling a heart condition called &lsquo;mitral valve prolapse&rsquo; for more than 20 years, and after undergoing a high-risk surgery in 2014, which led to her often suffering from heart palpitations.

The mother and the rest of Ng's family are extremely proud of her because despite facing poor health, Ng Yi Ming showed tenacity and high determination to complete her studies, and was able to attain high achievements.
Let Ng Yi Ming be an inspiration and a reminder to the rest of us to never give up on what we are pursuing despite the harsh obstacles we face in life.&nbsp;

Individuals who disrespect the national language (Bahasa Melayu) may be fined up to RM50,000 or be sentenced to imprisonment through amendments to the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Act 1959.
According to DBP board of governor chairman Prof Dr Datuk Seri Awang Sariyan, the two punishments were among the proposed amendments in the DBP Act, which are now in the final stage of discussion before being presented to the prime minister, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob next month.
&ldquo;This is not about grammar or spelling errors, but disrespect for the national language. The proposed fine is not to punish, but to evoke love and patriotism to the country,&rdquo; he told reporters after attending DBP&rsquo;s 66th Anniversary celebration on Wednesday, 22nd June.&nbsp;

Prior to this, the government would amend the DBP Act to allow the statutory body to take action against any violation of the Bahasa Melayu usage, including at the district level.
He added that DBP also proposed the National Language Act to be amended in line with the amendments of the DBP Act, so that it could carry out its duties as a language enforcer more effectively.
&ldquo;The National Language Act is the parent act to the DBP Act. If it is expanded, the government can ask DBP to implement the language policy more effectively,&rdquo; said Awang.
Regarding the amendments, he mentioned that it should be implemented holistically, not only in terms of enforcement but also in the aspect of internationalisation, accreditation and licensing of literary languages.&nbsp;

Dining in at a restaurant is something many Malaysians love to do and its either we get top-notch quality service, or we&rsquo;ll return home only to tell our family and friends one spicy story about it.

Sometimes we stumble upon posts online whether it being from the perspective of the employee or even the customer. Most of the time it&rsquo;s about customers complaining about the service of the restaurant or even restaurant owners calling out customers who left without paying.
You can&rsquo;t help it though, sometimes the customer isn&rsquo;t always right but there comes a time where attitude of the employees can tarnish the image of a restaurant. Due to social media being a strong influence it can also influence the cancel culture onto restaurants.
Recently a Pizzeria Dihyang restaurant in KL had become the talk of social media as it went under fire for refusing to help a sick customer.

Facebook user Alex Hooi shared his experience online as an unpleasant and terrible experience when visiting the eatery in Kuala Lumpur. Alex had gotten sick in the evening and had vomited his entire dinner but out. But to clarify, he stated that it was not due to the food&rsquo;s cleanliness.
What made the post viral was the service of the restaurant. Rather than ensuring Alex was okay and offering him a drink after throwing up, the restaurant insisted him to purchase their bottle of water (which is RM23.50) instead. Alex was clearly annoyed and after dealing with the staff who insisted to purchase the drink, he later returned to his seat where his friend had offered him some water.
What ticked Alex off the most was when he went to pay for the bill, he attempted to explain the issue to the manager and she replied &ldquo;Sir, if you needed tap water to clear your throat, we have tap water in the toilet&rdquo;.

While the restaurant trends online, netizens had also shared the story on their own social media as they called out the pizzeria and demanded an explanation. Instead of responding in a calm and orderly manner, the restaurant had simply reposted one of their Instagram stories and simply brushed it off and said &ldquo;Another story maker. Thank you for coming and ciao ciao&rdquo;.

To add fuel to the fire, the manager of the restaurant had also updated her Facebook status asking customers like him to &ldquo;go f*** yourself b****&rdquo;.

Well now, that isn&rsquo;t good publicity now ain&rsquo;t it? Ever since the whole fiasco, the restaurant&rsquo;s Facebook page has been receiving a lot of hate and is now rated 1.7 out of 5 Stars on Facebook. Yikes.
