At just 20 years old, Tan Hao Enn has left a profound legacy by becoming the youngest participant in Universiti Malaya&rsquo;s Silent Mentor Programme. Diagnosed at 17 with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCT), a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Hao Enn faced a battle that tested his strength, resilience, and character.
DSRCT is a devastating diagnosis, with a survival rate of only 15% over five years and no definitive cure. During his three-year fight, Hao Enn underwent multiple treatments, including surgery to remove a malignant tumour in his abdomen, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Despite these efforts, the cancer persisted, spreading aggressively and causing frequent relapses.
His father, Tan Jun Bin, remembered him as a cheerful and optimistic young man with a kind heart. Hao Enn&rsquo;s decade of martial arts training had instilled in him a sense of discipline and resilience that helped him endure the gruelling treatments. However, as his health declined and he was unable to undergo a stem cell transplant, the physical and emotional toll became overwhelming. He struggled with depression, even contemplating ending his life.

In the face of such hardship, Hao Enn made an extraordinary decision. Turning his pain into purpose, he chose to donate his body for medical research through Universiti Malaya&rsquo;s Silent Mentor Programme. While the ministry has encouraged the public to report similar cases, it noted that no official complaints against Oriental Kopi have been lodged yet.
