Two BIG phones with two even BIGGER price tags; I’m sure you’d wanna know that you’re breaking your “tabung” for the right buy. I’m gonna lay out some phone specifications and you be the judge!

Note 8 Design:

195g + 8.6mm thickness, bigger screen compared to the iPhone X – best for designing on the go. It fits in your skinny-jeans pocket, just like the iPhone X, without sticking out like a sore thumb. Pros compared to the iPhone X? Way more colours to choose from!

iPhone X Design:

179g + 7.7mm thickness, making this way lighter and way thinner than the Note 8 – but is something too thin & too light a good thing? However, if decision making is a problem, the iPhone X only have 2 colours!...both being so similar that it’s either choose matte or metallic.

Note 8 Display:

The 6.3in Super AMOLED edge-to-edge screen would beat the daylight out of any pre-existing iPhone models, but it’s gonna face some tough competition from the iPhone X. However, this one beats the crop in terms of sharpness. Yay clarity!

iPhone X Display:

It’s the first iPhone with 5.8in Super Retina OLED edge-to-edge screen. Welcome to the era of edge-to-edge! A definite booster for Apple cause the X has the highest resolution of any iPhone models yet! Apple’s True Tone tech is gonna make this a game-changer!

Note 8 Hardware & Storage:

Exynos 8995 octa0core CPU, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, microSD up to 256GB. That’s 2 more cores than the iPhone X, which equates to more braun, double the power of iPhone X’s RAM, and although it only has 64GB internal storage, can you argue that it has an external storage that can hold up 256GB?!

iPhone X Hardware & Storage:

A11 Bionic CPU, 3GB RAM, 64GB or 256GB storage. With this 6 core CPU, expect 25% faster performance than the A10 chip! The iPhone X packs 3GB RAM and a choice of 64GB or 256GB in-built storage. However, no external storage…awww.

Note 8 Software:

Android 7.0 Nougat has some pretty nifty custom features but honestly, none that is great enough to really shout about so I won’t even try.

iPhone X Software:

iOS 11, now that’s something to bring up! Now with “Animoji”, new gestures for multaskers, and the debut of the new “Face ID”. iPhone X users be proud cause your face-scanning tech wipes the floor with Note 8’s version, no joke.

Note 8 Camera:

Dual 12MP primary cam with 8MP selfie cam almost matches the iPhone X’s but doesn’t quite hit the spot – 2x optical zoom, 4K video  & 9MP image recording. A little bore if you ask me…

iPhone X Camera:

Same primary cam spec as the Note 8, with 12MP, but lower quality selfie cam with only 7MP. However there’s an upgrade with the dual sensors – now able to shoot 4K videos at up to 60fps & 1080fps, & slo-mo video at 240fps.

Note 8 Battery:

Supports a 3,300 mAh battery which seems pretty low for a phone this size. It may only last you half a day before hitting the charging port so that’s quite disappointing. I guess scaling down on the battery would reduce the probability of another Note 7 event?

iPhone X Battery:

Oh rejoice! Word is that the battery last 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7, and gives you 21-hours talk time – great for those using the phone for business. Battery wise, iPhone X slays the Note 8.

Note 8 Price:

Definitely cheaper than the iPhone X, that’s for sure! It’s selling for RM3,999. Painful, but yet bearable.

iPhone X Price:

This would break more than just your “tabung”… its price starts at RM5,149 and goes up to RM5,899. This is painful, just unbearably painful… *scoff scoff*

MYC! Verdict:

Both tech titans are pretty head-to-head. The iPhone X beats out the Note 8 when it comes to battery and software, whereby the Note 8 trumps in display and built-in specs.

I guess it just boils down to which brand you’re loyal to and if you have a deep-enough pocket. Personally, I’m sticking with the Android on this one….cause’ I definitely can’t afford the iPhone X!
