FUN FACTS

Parti Perikatan (The Alliance Party)

The Alliance Party (Parti Perikatan)
was a political coalition in Malaysia. The Alliance Party, whose membership consisted of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), was formally registered as a political organization on 30 October 1957. It was the ruling coalition of Malaya from 1957 to 1963, and Malaysia from 1963 to 1973. The party became the Barisan Nasional in 1973

Barisan Nasional

The Barisan Nasional Coalition uses the same inter- communal governing model as the Alliance Party's predecessor, but on a larger scale, with up to 14 communal political parties involved in the coalition at one point. It has dominated Malaysian politics for more than thirty years after its foundation. It had a combined period of rule from 1957 to 2018, together with its previous holder (Alliance), and was considered to be the longest ruling coalition party in the democratic world.
