February this year surely has had alot of climate surprises &ndash; from the occurrence of floods, tremors, and recently 2-minutes of snow?&nbsp;
It is very uncommon for snow to form in the tropics but it is not impossible, after a video of hikers atop Mount Kinabalu went viral as they were seen enjoying the alpine conditions as tiny icy flakes covered their bodies.
However, a climatologist came forward to claim that the tiny icy flakes falling on top of the said mountain was actually 'sleet' or also known as frozen raindrops rather than snowflakes that happens in most countries with winter seasons.
Nothing To &lsquo;Hype&rsquo; Actually

Stating that there was nothing to be surprised by the occurrence as Ramzah said sleet happens when frozen droplets are unable to melt on time before hitting the ground, especially in high and cold areas.
He further explained that frozen raindrops are simply &ldquo;hujan batu&rdquo; (if to define in Malay) which occasionally bound to happen in this country, noting that the flying sleet seen in the video is highly due to strong wind conditions on the tallest mountain in Malaysia.
&ldquo;If it were real snow, the flakes would not have drifted the way it did. Snow is very light and does not drop directly as seen in the viral video.
&ldquo;Snowflakes are very light and they drift like leaves when falling. This is definitely sleet,&rdquo; he told The Vibes after studying the viral video.
Not only that, he pointed out that the temperature on Mount Kinabalu's summit can drop to cold temperatures below 0&deg;C at times, hence, that was why the sleet could occur atop the summit.
Some climbers shared their experiences while on top of the mountain.

&ldquo;Wow! Snow is falling on Mt. Kinabalu guys!&rdquo; said one ecstatic climber in the video that shows white icy flakes falling from the sky.
According to The Vibes, Julaimin Kamin, a Sabah Park ranger, told that the &lsquo;snowing&rsquo; occurrence lasted for around two minutes between 6.40 am and 6.42 am at Sayat-Sayat, about 8.72km from Mount Kinabalu's summit.
The &lsquo;snow&rsquo; was witnessed by at least 164 climbers on the mountain when it happened yesterday, Feb 28.
&ldquo;The average temperature during the time of incident was around 6.9&deg;C to 12.3&deg;C,&rdquo; he said.
Sabah Parks director Maklarin Lakim also confirmed the incident, adding that the park received numerous queries about the matter after the video went viral.
&ldquo;Yes, it happened this morning.
&ldquo;Maybe due to the phenomena where the earth&rsquo;s location is far away from the sun now and this made the earth cooler than usual,&rdquo; he said.
The last recorded snowfall on Gunung Kinabalu happened in 1975, 1993, and 2018.

The tragic discovery of a 39-year-old schoolteacher&rsquo;s decomposed body in her Johor home has sparked widespread concern and prompted authorities to issue a public appeal for assistance in tracing her only known living relative. The woman, who had been absent from work since September last year, is believed to have died alone nearly a month prior to the discovery of her remains.
Alarming Smell Leads to Grim Discovery

On the evening of Thursday, 12 June, residents of Bandar Selesa Jaya in Skudai were alarmed by a strong foul smell emanating from a house in their neighbourhood. After days of tolerating the stench, one concerned neighbour finally lodged a police report at the Nusa Bestari Police Station at approximately 8:06pm.
Responding officers forced entry into the premises, where they were met with a harrowing scene: the lifeless, heavily decomposed body of a woman&mdash;later identified as Lo Kwan Fong, also known as Luo Qunfeng (transliteration)&mdash;was found inside the house.
According to Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan, the Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, the victim is believed to have died about a month earlier. Early observations ruled out any signs of a struggle or forced entry.
No Foul Play Suspected, But Autopsy Inconclusive

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) in Johor Bahru by forensic specialists. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, the medical team was unable to determine the precise cause of death. The body had reportedly deteriorated to such an extent that internal indicators were no longer viable for a conclusive assessment.
&ldquo;The autopsy could not ascertain the cause of death. However, there were no signs of criminal activity, and we have classified this as a case of sudden death,&rdquo; said ACP Kumarasan.
This classification rules out foul play for now, though police have not entirely closed the file, pending any new leads or forensic insights.
Months of Absence and Increasing Isolation

Lo, a teacher at a school in Taman Tunku Aminah, had not reported for work since 24 September 2024. In February 2025, her colleagues paid her a visit at home. It was the last confirmed contact anyone had with her. Students Take Action Before Police Arrive

Between January and May 2025, 492 officers were subjected to disciplinary action, with 59 dismissed and 146 suspended, according to Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, Director of PDRM&rsquo;s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
The most common offences were integrity-related violations (333 cases), followed by governance issues (45), drug offences (42), criminal acts (38), syariah breaches (19), and corruption (15). The figures were revealed during Azri&rsquo;s visit to the newly officiated Maran District Police Headquarters, which serves over 115,000 residents.
Public complaints about police misconduct also surged, with 2,637 reports filed in just five months&mdash;1,892 formal complaints and 745 public tips. In response, PDRM launched the Aduan JIPS PDRM app, offering a more transparent platform for the public to report wrongdoing.
End of a Career and a Call for Reform
Azri&rsquo;s remarks came as part of his final tour of duty, with his retirement scheduled for 26 June 2025, marking the end of a 37-year career in the police service. His departure comes at a pivotal moment, as PDRM faces mounting pressure to reform and rebuild trust with the public.
