Netflix serial killer TV series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has caused outrage on social media due to its inconsideration of the feelings of the victims' families.&nbsp;
It is currently a hit series on Netflix which was released on 21 September 2022.&nbsp; Created by Ryan Murphy who also produced &lsquo;American Crime Story&rsquo; anthology series, it sketches the real events of the brutal murders committed by the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

<h2>Murder Cases Turned Into Entertainment</h2>
It is not new for murder cases to be adapted into TV series to entertain viewers. Previously, serial killers such as Ted Bundy, Edmund Kemper, Charles Mandon, John Wayne Gacy were introduced as characters through the imaginations of some creators.&nbsp;
These shows have attracted the attention of the public, turning into sensations on social media. The killer Ted Bundy was trending on Tik Tok after the movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and the documentary Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes had gone viral.&nbsp;
The hashtag #TedBundy has gained about one billion views on Tik Tok while #JeffreyDahmer has 1.3 billion views.&nbsp;
On Tik Tok, there were attempts by some users to create a similar ambience filled with anxiety and tension in those films or shows, which sparked criticism over the romanticisation of murders.

<h2>Making Profits Out Of The Pain Of Victims&rsquo; Families</h2>
Such adaptations raise the question of whether it is appropriate to gain interests from tragedies that might traumatise the victims&rsquo; families.&nbsp;
Netflix seemed to have an answer to this question as it delineated the miniseries as &ldquo;giving the victims a voice&rdquo;. However, their families certainly didn&rsquo;t think so.
Sister of one of the victims, Rita Isbell, told Insider that she had not been reached out by Netflix for the consultation of the show.&nbsp;
&nbsp;"I was never contacted about the show. I feel like Netflix should've asked if we mind or how we felt about making it.
"They didn't ask me anything. They just did it." She said. Her testimony at the Jeffrey Dahmer trial was duplicated in the series.
Another cousin of the same victim, Eric Perric, expressed his disappointment and dissatisfaction upon Netflix&rsquo;s decision to leave the family&rsquo;s consents aside in creating the TV series involving them by commenting on twitter:&nbsp;

Rita Isbell also pointed out scornfully that the victims&rsquo; families did not gain financial benefits from the show, saying: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s sad that they&rsquo;re just making money off of this tragedy. That&rsquo;s just greed.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Some criticised the fact that the traumatising events were merely used as entertainment, concurring with Rita Isbell&rsquo;s opinion.

Well, there is no perfect answer to this question for now.
According to the commentaries online and what the families thought about the issue, one thing remains clear: the opinions of the victims&rsquo; families should be taken into account during the production of this sort of adaptation. Or else, it would be sheer exploitation.&nbsp;

While the series remains a popular one on the streaming platform, it&rsquo;s good to keep in mind that they are based on reality when watching them.&nbsp;
