Pembiayaan pembelajaran ke IPT kini memerlukan dana yang banyak, walau ke universiti awam sekalipun. Oleh itu, wujudnya banyak perbadanan yang menawarkan bantuan kewangan kepada sesiapa yang mahu melanjutkan pembelajaran, baik dalam bentuk hadiah mahupun pinjaman.
Salah satu pembekal pinjaman utama ke IPTA di Malaysia, PTPTN, bertekad mahu membantu seramai pelajar yang mereka boleh bantu.

Dalam satu kenyataan, PTPTN menyatakan bahawa mereka telah menyediakan Wang Pendahuluan Pinjaman (WPP) sebanyak&nbsp; RM 42.4 juta kepada 28,278 pelajar yang kini telah melanjutkan pembelajaran ke IPTA melalui sesi Oktober 2022.
Rata-rata pelajar telah menerima sebanyak RM1,500 seorang atas satu perjanjian persetujuan penerimaan WPP itu. Kebanyakan pelajar ini juga adalah merupakan penerima Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) yang telah memenuhi syarat yang ditetapkan.
Pihak PTPTN juga ada menyatakan, "Tempoh sah laku WPP ini adalah selama dua bulan, bermula 5 Oktober 2022 hingga 5 Disember 2022. Pelajar-pelajar boleh menunaikan WPP ini di kaunter Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad mulai 5 Oktober 2022 dengan membawa surat tawaran WPP dan juga MyKad pelajar namun wakil adalah tidak dibenarkan.&rdquo;

Bukan itu sahaja, Pengerusi PTPTN, Dr. Apli Yusoff juga ada mengadakan sesi zaiarah ke pemohon yang layak di kawasan Kuala Nerus, Terengganu pada 2 Oktober yang lalu.
Tujuan utama mereka adalah mahu membantu para pelajar menampung sekurang-kurangnya sebahagian perbelanjaan awal pelajar. 
Dr. Apli ada mengatakan bahawa, "PTPTN sebagai agensi di bawah Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi atau KPT sentiasa berusaha membantu ibu bapa dan pelajar yang berjaya melanjutkan pengajian dalam usaha memastikan tiada pelajar yang tercicir ke IPTA.&rdquo;

Beliau juga ada berpesan supaya wang pinjaman yang diberikan itu perlulah digunakan sebaik mungkin oleh para penerima. Katanya, &ldquo;tunjukkanlah rasa syukur dan terima kasih dengan belajar bersungguh-sungguh sehingga menjadi modal insan unggul kepada negara.&rdquo;
Selain itu, beliau juga ada mengumumkan berkenan permohonan untuk sesi yang seterusnya- para pelajar yang telah memohon bolehlah mula menyemak portal rasmi PTPTN mulai 11 Oktober ini.

However, the act that made headlines was when two students set fire to a large placard bearing Anwar&rsquo;s caricature and the words: &ldquo;MADANI: Protector of Sabah corruption.&rdquo; The imagery and bold message sparked both condemnation and debate.
One of the organisers, final-year student Fadhil Kasim, later took responsibility for the act on social media, defending it as a symbolic gesture rooted in historical student activism.

In his statement, Fadhil invoked the legacy of Anwar Ibrahim himself &mdash; who, as a student leader in the 1970s, led similar acts of protest. He pointed to Anwar&rsquo;s involvement in burning a copy of 13 Mei, a book by Malaysia&rsquo;s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, during a student demonstration over perceived injustices.
&ldquo;We were inspired by Anwar&rsquo;s own activism. Just as he once burned a book he believed undermined the truth, we burned his caricature to highlight betrayal and hypocrisy,&rdquo; Fadhil wrote. &ldquo;I&rsquo;d like to think Anwar, upon seeing the video, would be reminded of who he once was.&rdquo;
He also added that the outrage from Anwar's loyalists &mdash; including youth groups such as ABIM and AMK &mdash; missed the point, as they were more concerned with optics and reverence than the actual issues being raised.
UMS: Burning Was &lsquo;Immature and Uncivilised&rsquo;

UMS, however, has firmly condemned the act. Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor described the incident as &ldquo;uncivilised, immature, and unreflective of the intellectual standards expected of university students.&rdquo;
He confirmed that 13 students had been identified as participants in the protest, and two were directly involved in burning the caricature. The university indicated that disciplinary proceedings were being considered under the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU). A committee of academics would be established to review the matter and determine appropriate action, including possible suspension or expulsion.
Despite the criticism, the protest&rsquo;s central message appears to have struck a chord with many Malaysians disillusioned by the slow pace of anti-corruption efforts, particularly in East Malaysia.

Datin Vivy Sofinas Yusof and her husband, Datuk Fadzarudin Shah Anuar &mdash; co-founders of the once-celebrated fashion and e-commerce brands FashionValet and dUCk &mdash; are set to stand trial in 2026 for allegedly misappropriating RM8 million in investment funds. The funds, entrusted to their company by two government-linked investment giants &mdash; Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) &mdash; were meant to support and develop local entrepreneurship.
Instead, the high-profile couple is accused of transferring the RM8 million from FashionValet Sdn Bhd into a separate entity they also owned &mdash; 30 Maple Sdn Bhd &mdash; without obtaining approval from FashionValet&rsquo;s board of directors. The alleged financial misconduct is said to have taken place on 21 August 2018 at Public Bank&rsquo;s Bukit Damansara branch in Kuala Lumpur.
Trial Dates Set for 2026

After months of legal developments, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has now fixed 15 days for the full trial next year. Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad confirmed the following dates:

The next case mention is scheduled for 27 October 2025, allowing the defence team more time to examine forensic reports and prepare their arguments. According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, the prosecution intends to call 26 witnesses to testify over the course of the trial.
Vivy and Fadzarudin, both aged 37, were not present during the recent case management hearing on 23 June 2025, as their legal counsel had secured an exemption from court attendance. The couple continues to be represented by lawyer M. Athimulan.
Pleading Not Guilty to CBT and Alternative Charge

Additionally, the couple faces an alternative charge under Section 403, also read with Section 34, for dishonestly misappropriating property belonging to the company. This charge carries a lighter penalty &mdash; a prison term ranging from six months to five years, and may also include caning and a fine upon conviction.
Both Vivy and Fadzarudin have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Controversy Surrounding Internal Acquisition

Although 30 Maple had posted profits of RM8.5 million in 2017 and RM7.7 million in 2018 &mdash; along with a RM10 million dividend payout &mdash; the timing and structure of the RM95 million acquisition deal sparked scepticism.
Critics argue that the founders effectively channelled public investment funds back into their personal company, raising ethical concerns over whether such internal transactions should have received greater scrutiny, especially given the involvement of taxpayer-linked capital.
