A horrific landslide had occured in Batang Kali earlier this morning.
According to Health Minister Dr.Zaliha Mustafa, 16&nbsp;people had died as of 11 a.m. following the early-morning landslide at a campsite in Batang Kali. She claimed that while the majority of the bodies are still at the scene of the event, some had been transported to Sg Buloh Hospital. According to officials, there were 94 victims in total, 22 of whom are still missing while search and rescue efforts go on. All of the victims are locals.&nbsp;

A boy, a man and six women are among the deceased. At 12.30p.m, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail issued an order for the immediate closure of all camping grounds and water recreation zones in Batang Kali. This morning, Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, the Inspector-General of Police, was seen going to the scene of the incident.
According to minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will support search and rescue operations with volunteers and food. Some of the victims that were saved have reportedly been transported to the Ulu Yam Baru police station to give testimony.

The emergency response team from the Mineral and Geoscience Department is on the scene this morning to look into what caused the landslide. Director of Selangor Fire and Rescue Datuk Norazam Khamis said earlier that three injured individuals were discovered while 37 people were rescued. There are 200 people on scene helping with the ongoing search and rescue efforts for the missing.
He said that a rescue crew was sent to the Father's Organic Farm campsite after an emergency contact was made at 2.24 am. The 30m landslide, which was about the area of three acres, happened next to Father's Organic Farm at the side of the road. Prior to the arrival of 200 search and rescue workers, it was thought that 100 victims might still be under the wreckage.

Nga Kor Ming, the local government and development minister, claims that the three campsites that were buried by the landslide in Batang Kali, which has so far claimed 16&nbsp;lives, were not authorised. If found guilty, the campground owners could spend up to three years in prison and/or pay a fine of RM50,000.

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the minister of natural resources, the environment, and climate change, announced that he would visit the scene of the event today. He added that search and rescue efforts have been ongoing since early in the morning and begged for the missing to be located safely. There&nbsp;will also be a number of cabinet members there.

She shares that she heard a loud noises around 2am for the first time and claimed that that was liekly when Zone A was struct by the landslide. Around 3am they could feel the landslide and there was not signal at that moment. She says two family members were sleeping in the car and were trapped in Zone B. The fire department had brought them out at 6:30am and one fmaily member was sent to the hospital while one unfortunately passed away at the scene.

In a decisive move to address rising concerns over youth vaping, the Selangor state government has ordered all local authorities to immediately seize and remove advertisements promoting vape and electronic cigarette products. This directive covers both physical media, such as billboards and shopfront banners, and digital promotions seen on screens or online platforms.
The instruction was issued following a high-level coordination meeting on 16 May, chaired by Selangor&rsquo;s Executive Councillor for Public Health and Environment, Jamaliah Jamaluddin. The session, attended by representatives from the Selangor Health Department, Economic Planning Unit, district health offices, and local councils, was convened to discuss the prospect of a complete ban on vape sales in the state.

&ldquo;This measure is in line with national legislation and reflects Selangor&rsquo;s commitment to safeguard public health, especially that of our younger generation,&rdquo; she said in an official statement.
The state&rsquo;s decision follows growing public concern about the visibility of vape marketing, particularly near schools and public areas, which critics say normalises the habit among impressionable youth.
Vaping Among Teen Boys Described as &lsquo;Alarming&rsquo;

She described the figure as &ldquo;deeply alarming&rdquo; and warned that it signalled a dangerous trend that, if left unaddressed, could have long-term public health implications.
&ldquo;These statistics are not just numbers; they represent thousands of young lives potentially heading down a path of addiction and health problems,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;We cannot afford to be passive. The time to act is now.&rdquo;
Online Sales Remain a Key Regulatory Challenge

Despite the legal nuances, Selangor is calling for widespread support to ensure the success of its anti-vape campaign. Jamaliah said that the cooperation of parents, schools, healthcare professionals, and civil society organisations is vital to changing the tide of vape use among teens.
&ldquo;We welcome the active involvement of stakeholders at all levels&mdash;state, federal, and grassroots&mdash;to ensure these measures are effective and enduring,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;This is not just a government effort. It must be a collective societal responsibility.&rdquo;

Selangor Cracks Down On Vape Advertising Amid Rising Teen Usage

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched a newly-designed physical Malaysian driving licence card featuring improved security elements and a refreshed aesthetic meant to symbolise the country's modernisation journey. While the move marks a key milestone in JPJ&rsquo;s broader digital transformation, the physical version of this updated licence is not available to everyone &mdash; at least for now.
Physical Card Limited to Travellers and Foreigners
Beginning 21 May 2025, the new physical driving licence card will only be issued to two categories of individuals:

<li>Malaysian citizens who need to drive overseas</li>
<li>Foreign nationals residing in Malaysia renewing their licences</li>
</ol>
All other Malaysians renewing their driving licences will continue to receive only the digital version, accessible through the MyJPJ mobile application.

Those who still wish to obtain a physical card without a valid overseas requirement will be denied under the current policy. However, the department hinted that further policy adjustments could be made in the future depending on public feedback and international developments.

Today, Chia is headlining her Asia tour, with stops in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan. Later this year, she will relocate to Barcelona to kick off her European tour, with scheduled shows in Switzerland, Poland, Germany, and Belgium.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s been a long-held dream of mine to live in Europe and enjoy a beach lifestyle,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s ironic, but I&rsquo;m grateful to Malaysia. This incident changed my life for the better.&rdquo;
Still Carrying the Label
Although she has since moved forward with her career, Chia admits that she&rsquo;s still grappling with the label of being the &ldquo;Malaysia Airlines joker.&rdquo; Yet, she remains undeterred. With her high-energy delivery and personal brand of unapologetic humour, she continues to draw material from cultural differences, migration, and social dynamics.
&ldquo;This is happening for me, not to me,&rdquo; she said, referencing a mantra by motivational speaker Tony Robbins.
As she steps onto new international stages, Jocelyn Chia remains a polarising figure &mdash; a cautionary tale for some, a comeback story for others &mdash; but undeniably a comedian who refused to be silenced.
