<p>Fashion is something many people can and can&rsquo;t seem to pull off. In fact, it can sometimes be pretty questionable. One of the most recent questionable fashion statements in Malaysia was none other than local clothing brand BEHATI for the upcoming Hari Raya 2023 collection and Dato&rsquo; Seri Vida&rsquo;s outrageous red carpet fit.</p>

<p>Despite the controversy, their brand had not triggered many as much as this Australian streetwear label as their design sparked more controversy all over social media.</p>
<p><strong>Printed Arabic Word For Allah On Their Clothing</strong></p>
<p>An Australian streetwear label known as &lsquo;Not A Man&rsquo;s Dream&rsquo; was the talk of social media after they displayed the Arabic script &ldquo;Allah&rdquo; at the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival.</p>

<p>One of the designs featured at the exhibition showed a sleeveless jumpsuit which was also transparent, and it wrote &ldquo;Allah walking with me&rdquo; on a shirt. Another piece featured a layered, short-sleeve midi dress with a large split which also had &ldquo;Allah&rdquo; printed on it.</p>
<p>After images of the design went viral on social media and thanks to fashion blogger Mona Khalifa voicing out her thoughts on it, the designer, Samantha Saint James who founded the label in 2022 and the event received massive backlash for disrespecting Islam.</p>

<p>In her video, Khalifa shared with her followers that she was frustrated by the presentation and was also disturbed at the pieces she saw. Some of the models had allegedly disagreed with wearing the pieces by Samantha Saint James as they were truly uncomfortable about walking down the catwalk wearing them.</p>
<p><strong>Public Apology Issued</strong></p>
<p>Since the backlash happened, the organizers of Melbourne Fashion Week and Samantha Saint James issued a public apology.</p>

<p>&ldquo;The festival did not intend to disrespect anyone and we apologise for any offence caused. We have been in contact with the designer of Not A Man&rsquo;s Dream and together we have agreed to remove certain content from our channels,&rdquo; they said in their statement.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I have come to understand how some garments have caused offence. It was the opposite of my intention and for that, I&rsquo;m truly sorry,&rdquo; said Samantha Saint James.</p>

<p>Following the backlash, Melbourne Fashion Week has since removed their social media posts on the controversial fashion piece and Not Man&rsquo;s Dream&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/notamansdream/">official Instagram page</a> has been set to private.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><em>At the end of the day, we must remember that religion is always a sensitive matter and no one should ever be toying around with it, especially if it's on clothing. &nbsp;So, a reminder to all out there in the creative field, if you ever thought that using anything religious is a good idea on your designs, you should probably think twice about it.</em></span></p>

Fashion Controversy: Aussie Streetwear Brand & Melbourne Fashion Festival Issues Apology For “Allah” Printed Fabric

<p>Whenever you go out in Malaysia, you&rsquo;ll probably notice that many of our malls or entertainment outlets actually have dedicated areas and facilities for the disabled (OKU). If you were to go to any mall within the Klang Valley, you&rsquo;ll frequently notice that they too ensure that there are sufficient restrooms for them whenever nature calls.</p>
<p>The good thing is that many Malaysians out there all respect the OKU citizens and always offer a helping hand to them in any way possible to ensure that what they are doing can be done smoothly, especially if they are taking public transport.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, not all people are good and sometimes they really need to be thought a lesson on how to respect the disabled.</p>
<p><strong>OKU Man Waits 1.5 Hours To Use OKU Toilet</strong></p>
<p>Recently, Daniel Lee who is a para-athlete advocate recorded an incident that he faced after needing to use the restroom at Pavilion KL.</p>

<p>As Lee was making his way to the OKU restroom, he found out that it had been occupied by someone else. He then suspected that the occupant was not a disabled individual and proceeded to wait outside for 1.5 hours.</p>
<p>He then knocked on the door 3-5 times to ensure that someone was inside and that&rsquo;s when he heard someone yell, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m not done!&rdquo;.</p>
<p>Frustrated at the situation, Lee then contacted the mall's management and a staff member came to his aid. Shortly after, the man who had been hogging the OKU restroom came out and also attempted to shrug the issue off.</p>
<p><strong>The Man Was Allegedly Washing His Clothes</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Lee had confronted the man for hogging the OKU restroom for 1.5 hours and asked why did he do so. The latter answered that he had recently moved out and that he wanted to wash his clothes before his trip back to this home town.</p>
<p>He even gave the excuse stating that he only used the OKU restroom as he claimed that there had been no one using it and thought the people knocking on the door were the cleaners. Additionally, he did not want to use the normal restroom to wash his clothes.</p>
<p><strong>I&rsquo;m Not In A Wheelchair Like You</strong></p>
<p>When Lee requested for the man to wait till security arrives to assess the mall&rsquo;s policy regarding the issue, the man later got angry and tried to walk away.</p>

<p>He then proceeded to question the latter on why did he use the restroom thinking if he had any disabilities or if he was homeless and why he had used the OKU restroom.</p>
<p>In a rude manner, the man replied &ldquo;Of course, I don&rsquo;t have (any disabilities). I&rsquo;m not in a wheelchair like you&rdquo;. He later got more aggressive towards Lee and even told him to shut up. As the man lost his patience, he attempted to escape via the lift and eventually walked out of the shopping mall.</p>

<p><strong>Mixed Reactions Among Netizens Online</strong></p>
<p>As Lee did explain to the man that if there is a penalty for wrongfully using the disabled restroom, he would not pursue it further as he just wants it to be a stern reminder to the man. Lee also explains that the point of his post was not to shame the man but to help raise more awareness of the issues that are faced by the disabled community on a daily basis and hopes that more individuals would be more considerate in the future.</p>
<p>Yes, the man did apologise but no action would have been taken against him as Pavilion does not have any policies in place that could penalise or reprimand anyone who abuses the OKU restrooms.</p>
<p>Netizens reacted to a series of videos posted by Lee and despite having support for it, some also questioned why didn&rsquo;t Lee go to another OKU restroom instead of waiting for 1.5 hours. Some even condemned Lee for &ldquo;running the man&rsquo;s reputation&rdquo;.</p>

<p>Despite the inflation issue and hardships that many Malaysians face, this burger stall in Melaka has set the issue aside and offers free food to those in need.</p>

<p>Asip Burger Bachang had posted up a picture of a sign in front of their stall stating to customers who can&rsquo;t afford to purchase food, they encourage to let them know about their predicament.</p>
<p>&ldquo;If you don&rsquo;t have money to buy food, please tell us as there&rsquo;s no need to go hungry. We will give you a burger for free,&rdquo; read the sign.</p>

<p>As their post gained attention on Facebook, many netizens were touched by the stall's initiative to help those in need. Before you think that this only attracted the Malay crowd, it was also shared across Chinese language-based platforms and it too got much praise.</p>

I remember when I used to manage a stall, every time when finding a spot, I ask the Malay people they will personally find a spot for you to set up your stall. Some even help u to carry the stock! <p>One thing to note is that the stall informed the public that during Ramadan, their stall will not be operating throughout Ramadan as they would like to take the opportunity to fast and return from work peacefully without having the need to rush to purchase goods and break fast with their family. They did promise that after the 7<sup>th</sup> day of Hari Raya, they will resume operations as usual.</p>

<p>Recently, Canon Malaysia uploaded a video showcasing street photography by local photographer <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mimstreetphotography/?hl=en">@mimstreetphotography</a>.</p>

<p>The caption read out &ldquo;STREET PHOTOGRAPHY&rdquo; and typically, many would think they&rsquo;d see some pretty impressive shots of what&rsquo;s going on around the streets of KL. However, to those who haven&rsquo;t dived much into photography, the video would certainly attract users as it showcases the brand's EOS RP camera that&rsquo;s paired up with their EF135mm F2.0L USM lens.</p>
<p>Netizens had called out Canon Malaysia on their social media platforms pointing out that the video they shared was not street photography and many gave their own opinion about the issue.</p>
<p>The issue was brought to light by photojournalist Farhan Akmal who shared a series of opinions on Twitter.</p>

<p>In the Facebook post that has now been deleted by Canon, stand-up comedian <a href="https://twitter.com/prakashdaniel">Prakash Daniel</a> also voiced out his thoughts and called for Canon Malaysia to &ldquo;stop spoiling the term Street Photography&rdquo;. He called out the brand for not featuring many other established street photographers in the country and questioned how the brand managed to come up with content that&rsquo;s pulled out straight from TikTok.</p>

<p>Although the post has now been deleted from Facebook, Canon Malaysia&rsquo;s Instagram still has it up but its caption had since been edited to &ldquo;Is this reel street photography, or something else? What do you think? Comment below!&rdquo;.</p>
<p>Of course, the negativity didn&rsquo;t stop on Instagram and many shared their thoughts on the video:</p>

<p>But despite it, some had voiced out and did say that what Canon did is indeed street photography as most of these shots are candid shots in an environment that can&rsquo;t necessarily be controlled all the time.</p>

<p><strong>What Is Defined As Street Photography?</strong></p>

<p>Street photography is typically known as candid photography. The style is conducted for art or enquiry that features unmediated chances encounters and random incidents within public areas. What makes street photography such a fun topic is how each subject you take always has a story behind the photo which shows the expression of a person during the said moment.</p>
<p>Typically, this type of photography is often taken without the knowledge of the strange which gives the photo the most authentic feel. Even Bloomberg noted that street photographers would not necessarily have a social purpose in mind as they would like to isolate and capture moments that sometimes go unnoticed.</p>

The Street Photography Debate: Canon Malaysia's Approach On Topic Outrages Netizens

<p>Recently, news of Hot Thai Guys performing at Privacy Club at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur became a hot topic on social media.</p>
<p>If you don&rsquo;t know who these men are, they are said to be famous in Thailand at a restaurant called Staneemeehoi in Lat Phrao, Bangkok.</p>

<p>According to the event poster, there were 4 hunky men the club had intended to invite the men to Kuala Lumpur for their opening which was supposed to be held on 30<sup>th</sup> March with tickets allegedly going on sale for RM888.</p>

<p>Many news outlets picked up on the story and reported that people were not thrilled about such an event happening in Malaysia, especially since its currently the month of Ramadan. While there are many stories of politicians disapproving of the opening of the club such as PAS secretary Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan who had urged DBKL to take action.</p>
<p>Astro Awani meanwhile reported that UMNO&rsquo;s Youth Division had also struck out against the event and is lodging a police report over the event.</p>
<p><strong>Najib&rsquo;s Son Sad About The Situation</strong></p>
<p>After the posts had gone viral across social media, the son of former Prime Minister Najib Razak slammed the premise for planning an event there as well as insulting his late grandfather&rsquo;s name.</p>

<p><strong>Addressing The Situation</strong></p>
<p>After receiving a lot of backlashes, the management of Privacy had not expected that the event will bring this much negative attention and they had come forward to address the situation.</p>

It also stated that they respect the religious sensitivities of the country and will not violate the laws that have been set. Furthermore, they clarified that the media distribution regarding the program was posted without their consent and apologised for that error.</p>
<p><strong>Were They Operating Without A Valid License?</strong></p>
<p>There had been reports that the venue had been operating under an expired license and had no application for an entertainment license which included the Hot Thai Guys and guest DJs. They too clarified that the statement that was reported was not accurate.</p>

Controversy: Privacy Club Tun Razak Address Media Backlash Over Thai Hot Guys

<p>Having the convenience of e-hailing services around town can be pretty handy. No more needing to worry about parking your car and even the petrol fee. However, the only thing we can never avoid is the traffic.</p>
<p>Though it is a great option to take e-hailing services it too comes with a risk as you&rsquo;ll be meeting people of different backgrounds and both the passenger and the driver could get assaulted.</p>

<p>Recently, a Grab driver in Singapore had share his story of how a female passenger assaulted him after accusing him of taking a longer route which caused her to be late. The story was shared on an Instagram page, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/complaint.singapore/">@complaints.singapore</a> and the incident took place on 8 March.</p>
<p>The driver stated that he had picked up a female Chinese national who looked to be in her 40s. The drive started off at Ang Mo Kio and she wanted to head to Tao Payoh which is roughly a 15&ndash;20 minute ride at around 6 &ndash; 7.4KM depending on the route you take and on traffic conditions.</p>

<p>The moment she entered the vehicle, she was already trying to converse with the driver in mandarin, which he couldn&rsquo;t understand. Despite not being able to understand her, he still began the journey and followed the set route on the GPS.</p>
<p><strong>Woman Loses It When Approaching The Destination</strong></p>
<p>As the ride was reaching Tao Payoh, the driver stated that the woman had allegedly started screaming at him. He interpreted that the woman stated that she was running late and that he allegedly took a longer route to the destination.</p>

<p>The woman had also struck his shoulder which prompted the driver to abruptly step on the brakes. Despite trying to explain to the woman about the route that was selected by the GPS in English, it proved useless and he continued to drive till he reached the destination.</p>
<p>Upon opening the door for the woman, she started hitting and scratching his arm which prompted the driver to rush back into his car and drive away. Upon driving away, he later noticed that his arm was bleeding and he proceeded to lodge a police report before seeking medical treatment.</p>
<p><strong>Grab Singapore Responds To The Issue</strong></p>

<p>In a report by MS News, a spokesperson responded by stating that the company had reached out to the driver-partner to provide assistance. As for the woman, the e-hailing company has temporarily suspended the woman&rsquo;s account.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Grab does not tolerate any kind of inappropriate behaviour. Ensuring that all who use our platform feel safe is very important to us, and we urge everyone to treat each other with respect.&rdquo;</p>
