Several days have passed since the abrupt suspension of MYAirline's services, and it appears that their ongoing saga is far from over.
On October 12th (Thursday), MYAirline's suspension left thousands of passengers utterly surprised and speechless. They were left in a state of disarray, forced to hastily secure flight tickets with other carriers as the company offered no assistance following the sudden suspension announcement.

Yet, the lingering question remains: Is the suspension permanent, especially considering that the airline is relatively new and has operated for less than a year?

Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently declared that MYAirline's license will face a temporary suspension, emphasizing that the airline is not permanently closing. The reason behind this suspension, as per Loke, primarily stems from business considerations. He urged the airline to fulfil its responsibilities to both its employees and affected passengers. Ensuring refunds for all affected travellers is a crucial step to safeguard employee well-being.

At the time of the sudden suspension, approximately 125,000 passengers encountered difficulties. The company received over 12,000 emails related to the issue, and it was estimated that the total value of the affected tickets amounted to around RM20 million.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) clarified that the company's suspension would last for 90 days starting from Monday, pending further investigation by authorities. The suspension came as a surprise to the aviation authority and the Malaysian government, as they had recently granted an extension for the company to operate commercial passenger flights until 2025. An audit conducted from May 29 to June 1 found no indicators of financial distress.
Digging Deeper Into The MYAirline Issue
While much attention has been directed towards the airline's suspension, there have been multiple social media claims that the company failed to pay its staff for several months preceding the suspension. A former employee took to the Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu to share their experiences, along with those of their colleagues, during this challenging period.

It was observed that MYAirline staff, including their security officers, were initially scheduled to receive their salaries on September 26. However, the company repeatedly delayed the payment until it was announced that salaries would be postponed until October. In response to this, the security officers staged a strike as a form of protest against the company and its management.
"Upon receiving the news, everyone was left in a state of confusion and distress. Some were in tears, while others were in a state of panic. It was a bewildering situation. The company still owes me two months' worth of salary. The owner declared bankruptcy, the CEO absconded, and even the Captain participated in the strike," the user recounted.

Just when it seemed that the complaints had subsided, another employee came forward with a comparable grievance, asserting that the company hadn't provided full compensation for their ordeal. Nevertheless, this same employee expressed gratitude that other airline companies had extended a helping hand, offering support to both passengers and affected staff by offering employment opportunities during the abrupt unemployment.

HR Minister To Look Into Welfare of MYAirline Staff

Following the complaints, Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar will meet with the Labour Department today to address concerns regarding MYAirline staff not receiving their August salaries. He has directed Perkeso to assess the situation and take necessary actions. The Peninsula Labour Department will meet with MYAirline management and report back, determining the subsequent actions to be taken.
It's important to mention that all MYAirline staff remain officially employed, and there have been no instances of unpaid leave or terminations, as confirmed by interim accountable executive Datuk Seri Azharudin Abdul Rahman.

At the time of this statement, Azharudin issued an apology for the lack of transparency with customers, acknowledging the frustration of passengers left stranded at airports. He also recognized the company's communication shortcomings with Mavcom and CAAM, acknowledging the failure to engage with authorities and passengers in a timelier manner. The action was taken out of concern for passenger and employee safety on a flight that operated from Wednesday night to early Thursday morning.
Regarding the welfare of the airline's staff, Azharudin emphasized that their well-being remains a top priority, and once funding is secured, they will prioritize statutory payments and September salaries.

But that public goodwill turned into collective outrage when news broke that Kopi had been shot dead during a stray dog culling operation carried out by the Besut District Council. The shooting occurred in the early hours of 6 October 2024, reportedly around 1.30am.
According to Dr Kartini Farah Abdul Rahim, one of the plaintiffs, several residents were awakened by the sound of gunshots. Upon investigating, they observed three council officers driving around in a pick-up truck. Shortly after, Kopi was found dead from gunshot wounds. Her death, initially revealed via a post on the &ldquo;My Forever Doggo&rdquo; Instagram account, prompted widespread condemnation and demands for accountability.
Legal Grounds: Alleged Breach of Animal Welfare Law

Malaysia is once again celebrating a landmark moment in badminton history as national shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani officially become the world's top-ranked men&rsquo;s doubles pair, according to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on 27 May 2025. This milestone marks the first time a Malaysian men's doubles duo has ascended to the coveted No.1 position in nearly a decade.
A Return to the Summit After Almost a Decade
Goh and Nur, known affectionately by fans as FeiDin, now sit atop the global rankings with 91,090 points, surpassing Denmark&rsquo;s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, who dropped to second place after failing to defend their title at the recently concluded Malaysia Masters. The Danes were dethroned following their semi-final loss to fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Although Goh and Nur themselves bowed out in the quarter-finals of the same tournament after losing to another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, their consistent performances over the past year were enough to push them into the top spot. Their victory at the India Open in January 2025 was a pivotal moment, bolstering their climb after strong showings in 2024, which included titles at the Japan Open, China Open, and Arctic Open, as well as runner-up finishes at the BWF World Tour Finals and the Asian Championships.
This achievement makes Goh and Nur the first Malaysian men's doubles team to reach the world No.1 ranking since Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in March 2016. They also join a legendary group of Malaysian shuttlers who once held the same honour, including the Sidek brothers (Razif and Jalani), Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock, and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
Notably, this also marks the first time any Malaysian badminton player has reached world No.1 since singles icon Lee Chong Wei last held the spot in June 2017.

&ldquo;Congratulations to them &ndash; this is a fantastic achievement. But they must not get complacent. When you&rsquo;re number one, everyone is watching and targeting you. The pressure will be immense,&rdquo; he said.
Razif emphasised that without consistent performance and proper preparation, the pair risks losing their hard-earned position. &ldquo;Being on top must be motivation, not a destination. They must continue to train hard and think like champions if they are to remain at the peak,&rdquo; he added.
Spotlight on the Singapore Open

The Malaysians must reach at least the final to maintain their position. Should the Danish pair win the tournament and Goh-Nur exit early, the No.1 ranking could be lost as quickly as it was earned.
That said, the Danes have semi-final points from last year&rsquo;s Singapore Open to defend, while Goh and Nur could widen their lead by as much as 4,000 points if they reach the last four and Astrup-Rasmussen fall short in the quarters.
