The Finance Ministry has officially announced that users consuming more than 600kWh a month will incur an 8% SST charge, effective from March 1. If your monthly electricity bill exceeds RM220, you will face the 8% SST charge for surpassing 600 kWh.
For instance, utilizing the TNB Calculator, if a user's bill amounts to RM250, the 8% SST will only apply to the additional RM30, resulting in a charge of RM2.40. The total estimated bill would then be RM252.40.
Reassuringly, the Finance Ministry emphasized that only 15% of consumers in Malaysia will feel the impact of this service tax. Additionally, it clarified that the 8% SST will not be applicable to water bills. This tax hike aligns with the government's efforts to generate an additional revenue of RM3 billion, aiming to fortify Malaysia's fiscal position as outlined in the 2024 Budget.

His work, which aimed to revitalise neglected public spaces, was removed by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), sparking public debate over the decision.
Cloakwork is celebrated for his ability to transform dull, urban spaces into striking, vibrant murals. In late 2024, he took it upon himself to restore a number of derelict bus stops across the city. These stops were originally constructed with attached mini-shops that provided underprivileged individuals a space to sell snacks and beverages to commuters. However, as Kuala Lumpur modernised, these mini-shops disappeared, leaving behind shelters that fell into neglect&mdash;graffiti-covered, litter-strewn, and largely abandoned.
A Labour of Love&mdash;Erased Overnight

While many saw decay, Cloakwork saw potential. Using his artistic talents, he brought life back to these forgotten spaces with vibrant murals that immediately captured public admiration. For months, his artwork brightened the cityscape, adding character to the urban environment and providing a fresh perspective on these once-forgotten structures.
However, earlier this month, Cloakwork was shocked to find that his murals had been completely erased, with the bus stops returned to their dull, neglected state. The artist took to Instagram to voice his frustration, directly addressing DBKL:
&ldquo;Dear DBKL Malaysia, why did you remove my art? These old-fashioned bus stops were originally built by the government to help the underprivileged by allowing them to run small kiosks selling drinks and snacks. Today, only a few of these bus stops remain, and many are in a terrible state. One day, I passed by one and thought&mdash;why not use my skills to give it a fresh, vibrant makeover and bring some life back to the area?&rdquo;
Public Outcry: A Question of Priorities
His post quickly gained traction, with netizens expressing outrage over the removal of his work. Many questioned why authorities prioritised covering up harmless public art instead of addressing more pressing urban issues.
Cloakwork&rsquo;s criticism was direct: &ldquo;Instead of spending taxpayers' money to cover my harmless art, why not try to fix the potholes on the road?&rdquo; His statement resonated with many, reigniting discussions about the city&rsquo;s maintenance priorities.
Supporters argued that street art enhances urban spaces, adding character and cultural value. They pointed to international cities such as Melbourne, Berlin, and London, which actively encourage public murals as a form of urban beautification. Many felt that Kuala Lumpur should follow suit rather than treating street art as vandalism.

In the niche world of designer toy collecting, where limited-edition figurines can fetch staggering prices, a Malaysian con artist has orchestrated a fraud that has left more than 30 victims empty-handed. This scammer vanished with nearly RM300,000, luring collectors in with promises of exclusive Royal Molly figures&mdash;only to disappear without delivering a single item.
A Carefully Crafted Deception

The fraudster, a live-streamer who had built a strong reputation within the collector community, used his online presence to earn the trust of buyers. He cleverly priced his Royal Molly figures to appear like a great deal&mdash;affordable enough to attract interest but not suspiciously cheap. Exploiting the fear of missing out (FOMO) that drives many collectors, he managed to secure payments from multiple buyers before vanishing into thin air.
One victim, identified as Ms A, was personally approached by the scammer, who knew of her enthusiasm for Royal Molly figures. On 5 February, she placed an order with a promised delivery date of 5 March. However, the excuses soon began rolling in&mdash;first, he blamed shipping delays from China, then tried to upsell her a different colour variation for an extra RM500. By 7 March, he finally admitted he had never placed her order. Despite promising a refund, he disappeared, leaving Ms A with a RM7,488 loss and no collectables to show for it.
A Web of Deception Unravelled

As more victims began realising they had been scammed, they connected through social media and formed a WhatsApp group&mdash;a support network for those who had fallen prey to the fraud. The scale of the scam became clear: over 30 collectors had been swindled, with individual losses ranging from RM1,000 to RM35,000. In total, the stolen amount was nearly RM300,000&mdash;enough to purchase a small apartment.
Eventually, the victims managed to track down the scammer&rsquo;s brother. However, his response was nothing short of insulting&mdash;he proposed a repayment plan of RM500 per month, a sum so small it would take decades to fully repay the victims. To make matters worse, he issued a threat: if anyone reported the fraud to the police, all repayments would cease immediately, turning the situation into a financial hostage crisis.
A Shameless Display of Audacity

If the scam itself was not outrageous enough, the fraudster&rsquo;s next move was even more shocking. Under mounting pressure from victims demanding their money back, he claimed his mother had been hospitalised. Instead of returning any of the stolen money, he had the audacity to ask his victims for loans ranging from RM2,500 to RM5,000, supposedly to cover urgent medical expenses. It was an act of deception within a deception which really blew the mind of many.
As of now, only three victims have officially filed police reports, while others have either accepted the slow repayment plan or decided to cut their losses. The scammer, meanwhile, is believed to be overseas, potentially surrounded by a collection of Royal Molly figures bought with stolen funds.
A Costly Lesson for Collectors
This case is a stark reminder of the risks associated with unchecked trust in online purchases, particularly in tight-knit collector communities where passion often overrides caution.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who has been approached by victims for assistance, has urged more people to come forward and report the fraud. He advised that the scammer should be given one last opportunity to refund the money before the matter is escalated legally.
Ultimately, this incident serves as a harsh reality check: in the world of designer toys, the most valuable commodity isn&rsquo;t a limited-edition figurine&mdash;it&rsquo;s financial prudence. No collectable, no matter how exclusive, is worth the risk of losing thousands to a scam, leaving victims with nothing but regret and empty shelves.
