Throughout the last week of June 2024, the attire became a major topic of discussion, sparking creativity among netizens who took it upon themselves to create custom designs. They showcased their own ideas and even utilized AI-generated concepts for the attire.

After careful consideration, the outcry from fans was acknowledged last Friday (28 June), prompting the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to declare a complete overhaul of the national contingent&rsquo;s Olympic apparel in response to widespread criticism. OCM President Tan Sri Norza Zakaria unveiled plans to redesign and enhance the current attire to better reflect Malaysia&rsquo;s stature at the Olympics and to align with public expectations.
First Look At The New Design

As of July 2nd, the OCM has unveiled a revamped design for the attire of Malaysia's national contingent heading to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, featuring more prominent tiger stripes. Tan Sri Norza Zakaria emphasized that the new attire places greater emphasis on the tiger motif, which was lacking in the previous version. The updated jackets now prominently display tiger stripes against a black background.
In addition, the new design highlights the Malaysian flag and the five Olympic Rings, which have been redesigned to accurately reflect their original colours. The previous design, criticized for its use of gold instead of the national colours, has been updated to better showcase national pride.
Where&rsquo;s The Yonex Logo?

The new jacket notably excludes the logo of Yonex Sunrise Malaysia, the official sponsor of the Malaysian team, following special permission granted by the council. This decision arose from the timely issue, necessitating the use of fabric from a different manufacturer for both the jacket and t-shirt, hence the absence of the YY logo. It was highlighted that this adjustment required an agreement process aligned with Yonex Sunrise Malaysia's standard operating procedures.
OCM expressed appreciation to Yonex Sunrise Malaysia for their cooperation in allowing the redesign of the official attire. They also extended gratitude to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh for respecting OCM&rsquo;s role as the primary council of the National Sports Association, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Malaysia's National Olympic Council since 1954.
Hopes For Unwavering Support For The Contingent

OCM aims that the newly introduced design will embody the spirit of the tiger, which has symbolized the Malaysian contingent since its debut at the 2005 SEA Games in Manila.
"We hope this brighter pattern and motif not only emphasises the identity and uniformity of the contingent, but more importantly, symbolises their strength and courage to compete on behalf of the nation," said Norza.
The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is closely approaching and Malaysia will be represented by a total of 25 athletes (12 male and 13 female) competing across 9 different sports. The Games are scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
As we eagerly anticipate the opening, our heartfelt wishes go out to our athletes. We hope they excel in their events and return home adorned with medals, particularly the coveted gold medal we've been awaiting!

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have come under the spotlight once again following the circulation of a video featuring one of its officers allegedly engaging in inappropriate behaviour. The footage, lasting just over two minutes, shows a lower-ranking officer involved in a lewd conversation with a woman, during which he is heard inviting her either to his house or to a hotel. The video was widely shared on social media, drawing public criticism and raising questions over professional conduct within the force.
According to PDRM, the incident is believed to have taken place in the Ampang Jaya district of Selangor. In response, a disciplinary and criminal investigation has been launched against the officer.

Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, Director of PDRM&rsquo;s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS), confirmed that the department is actively investigating the case from both disciplinary and supervisory standpoints. He stated that stern action would be taken if the officer&rsquo;s behaviour was found to have violated the law or internal regulations. The department is also reviewing the role of the officer&rsquo;s superiors in overseeing his conduct.
Azri stressed that the police will not tolerate misconduct among its ranks and reminded all officers that they are accountable not just to their superiors, but also to the public they serve.
Separately, Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail revealed that the officer in question has already been temporarily relieved of his duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

The officer is now being investigated under two key laws. The first is Section 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with words or gestures intended to insult a person&rsquo;s modesty. The second is Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which addresses the misuse of network facilities or services to transmit offensive or indecent content.
In tandem with the criminal investigation, an internal disciplinary process is being carried out to assess breaches of the police code of conduct.

Integrity Issues Plague PDRM Amid Officer Misconduct Scandal

The recent viral misconduct case is just the tip of the iceberg for the PDRM, as broader concerns about internal discipline and professionalism continue to mount. Between January and May 2025, 492 officers were subjected to disciplinary action, with 59 dismissed and 146 suspended, according to Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, Director of PDRM&rsquo;s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
The most common offences were integrity-related violations (333 cases), followed by governance issues (45), drug offences (42), criminal acts (38), syariah breaches (19), and corruption (15). The figures were revealed during Azri&rsquo;s visit to the newly officiated Maran District Police Headquarters, which serves over 115,000 residents.
Public complaints about police misconduct also surged, with 2,637 reports filed in just five months&mdash;1,892 formal complaints and 745 public tips. In response, PDRM launched the Aduan JIPS PDRM app, offering a more transparent platform for the public to report wrongdoing.
End of a Career and a Call for Reform
Azri&rsquo;s remarks came as part of his final tour of duty, with his retirement scheduled for 26 June 2025, marking the end of a 37-year career in the police service. His departure comes at a pivotal moment, as PDRM faces mounting pressure to reform and rebuild trust with the public.
While the current case may involve a single officer, it has highlighted systemic concerns around supervision, discipline, and the need for continued vigilance against abuses of power.

PDRM Officer Under Investigation After Inappropriate Remarks Caught In Viral Video

In a striking example of how appearances can be deceiving, two luxury car drivers were recently caught by the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) for driving without valid road tax and insurance. Despite being behind the wheel of a BMW X5 and a Ford Mustang, both drivers claimed they were unable to renew their documents due to financial hardship.
The enforcement operation, Ops Harian, was held on Thursday, 12 June 2025, along the Kajang&ndash;Cheras Expressway, and ran from 2pm to 11pm. The two high-end vehicles were stopped during routine checks, and further inspection revealed they were in breach of road regulations.
Excuses Don&rsquo;t Match the Lifestyle: &ldquo;We Couldn&rsquo;t Afford It&rdquo;

According to Selangor JPJ Director Azrin Borhan, the Ford Mustang, driven by a man in his early 30s, was flagged for not having a valid Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) or insurance. The driver claimed he was unable to renew his road tax due to being blacklisted as a result of multiple outstanding traffic summonses.
The driver of the BMW X5, a man in his 40s, was found to be in even more serious violation &mdash; his vehicle had been driven with an expired road tax for more than a year and without any valid insurance coverage. When asked for an explanation, he too cited financial difficulties as the reason.
Both men stated that although they could afford to purchase luxury cars, they were struggling to maintain legal compliance with basic motoring requirements, such as road tax and insurance.
JPJ: &ldquo;Owning a Luxury Car Does Not Make You Above the Law&rdquo;

In response to the violations, both vehicles were immediately seized and taken to the JPJ Shah Alam branch for further investigation and enforcement action.
Azrin Borhan delivered a strong message to the public:
&ldquo;Driving an expensive vehicle is not a licence to break the law. Regardless of income or status, all road users must follow the same regulations. There will be no exceptions for those who own luxury cars.&rdquo;
He also stressed that stern action would be taken against individuals who are found to be negligent or who intentionally ignore their responsibilities as drivers.
A Recurring Issue: Expensive Cars, Missing Paperwork

The discrepancy between such valuable assets and the drivers&rsquo; claimed inability to pay for legal documents has reignited public concern over irresponsible ownership practices.
JPJ Urges Public to Stay Vigilant and Report Violations
JPJ also encouraged members of the public to report traffic offences through official channels. Those who witness violations or suspect similar offences can lodge a report by emailing aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or by using the e-Aduan JPJ mobile app. Reports should include sufficient detail and the complainant&rsquo;s contact information to allow for proper follow-up.
Azrin concluded his statement by calling on all motorists to take responsibility for their vehicles and comply with national road safety laws at all times.
&ldquo;Road safety is a shared responsibility. We urge everyone to ensure their vehicles are properly taxed, insured, and maintained. Anyone found to be negligent will face legal consequences.&rdquo;

A catastrophic aviation disaster unfolded on Thursday, 12 June, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The crash, which occurred at approximately 1.39pm local time, claimed the lives of more than 240 people, making it the world&rsquo;s worst commercial aviation tragedy in over a decade.

Flight AI171, bound for Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 individuals, including 217 adults, 11 children, two infants, and a crew of 12. The aircraft plummeted into a residential area, crashing directly into a hostel attached to a medical college in the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood during lunchtime. Among the deceased were hostel residents, including medical students, doctors, and their families.

Only One Survivor Pulled from the Wreckage

In a rare miracle, one passenger survived: a British national of Indian origin named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Seated in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit, Ramesh was able to escape the burning wreckage. He sustained multiple injuries but remained conscious and coherent when transported to hospital.
&ldquo;Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,&rdquo; Ramesh told the Hindustan Times from his hospital bed. &ldquo;When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.&rdquo;
Footage taken after the crash showed Ramesh bloodied and limping as he was helped into an ambulance. Police later confirmed he had managed to jump from the aircraft through the emergency exit, and that he remains the only known survivor.
Devastation on the Ground

The destruction was not limited to those on board. At least 24 people on the ground perished when the aircraft struck the building. Many others were injured. Witnesses described the crash as sounding like a bomb explosion, and some felt the ground shake as if during an earthquake.
&ldquo;My son is safe, and I have spoken to him,&rdquo; said a woman named Ramila, whose son had just returned to the hostel for lunch. &ldquo;He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries.&rdquo; Another local, Poonam Patni, recounted the horror: &ldquo;When we reached the spot there were several bodies lying around and firefighters were dousing the flames. Many of the bodies were burned.&rdquo;
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Authorities have asked families of the deceased to provide DNA samples for identification due to the severe burns suffered by many victims.
Cause of Crash Still Unknown
The aircraft had only just departed Ahmedabad&rsquo;s runway when it issued a Mayday call. Moments later, it vanished from radar. CCTV footage showed the plane struggling to climb before falling rapidly and disappearing from view, followed by a massive fireball rising from behind residential buildings.

Air traffic control confirmed the Dreamliner took off at 1.39pm and lost contact shortly after. The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that the plane&rsquo;s signal was lost less than a minute after take-off. Notably, video analysis suggested the landing gear was still down, which aviation experts noted as unusual for that stage of flight.
US aerospace safety consultant Anthony Brickhouse remarked: &ldquo;If you didn&rsquo;t know what was happening, you&rsquo;d think the plane was on approach, not take-off.&rdquo; The exact cause remains unknown, but mechanical failure or pilot error has not been ruled out.
First Crash for Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as &ldquo;heartbreaking beyond words.&rdquo; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the images &ldquo;devastating,&rdquo; and King Charles was said to be closely following developments. US President Donald Trump described the incident as &ldquo;terrible,&rdquo; while British authorities confirmed they were working with Indian counterparts to support affected families.
Three of the British victims were identified as Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their young daughter, Sara. Gatwick Airport has set up a special reception centre for relatives of passengers.
Investigation Underway

GE Aerospace, the maker of the plane&rsquo;s engines, has also sent a team to India to assist in analysing the flight and cockpit data. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working closely with Boeing and GE, while the UK&rsquo;s Foreign Office is providing consular support to affected families.
