The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is engaging Meta over growing complaints from Malaysians whose WhatsApp accounts have reportedly been hacked, blocked or rendered inaccessible.
The issue has drawn increasing public attention since July, with some users reporting that they were suddenly logged out of their accounts or found their phone numbers blocked from using WhatsApp.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said MCMC would meet Meta on 28 September to address the complaints, while Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Meta had requested additional time to investigate the technical aspects of the cases.
MCMC has also referred the matter to Meta, WhatsApp&rsquo;s parent company, for clarification and appropriate action.
Hacked And Blocked WhatsApp Accounts Are Different Issues

MCMC stressed that a compromised WhatsApp account and a blocked WhatsApp account are two separate issues, although one can potentially lead to the other.
According to the regulator, an account taken over by an unauthorised party could subsequently be used for scams, fraud, spam or other activities that violate WhatsApp&rsquo;s Terms of Service. If such activity is detected, WhatsApp may block the account.
This means that while a user may initially have been the victim of an account takeover, their account could later be blocked by WhatsApp because of activity carried out while it was under someone else&rsquo;s control.
MCMC clarified that the blocking of accounts is handled by WhatsApp itself, rather than the Malaysian government or the communications regulator. Its role is to investigate complaints and engage with Meta regarding affected users.
What To Do If Your WhatsApp Account Is Blocked

Users who receive a notification stating that their phone number is no longer allowed to use WhatsApp may be able to request a review directly through the app.
WhatsApp provides a &ldquo;Request Review&rdquo; option for users who believe their account has been blocked incorrectly. Users can select the option and follow the instructions provided within the application.
WhatsApp says reviews are generally completed within 24 hours, after which users will be notified of the decision.
However, if the &ldquo;Request Review&rdquo; option does not appear, the restriction may be final and cannot be appealed through the in-app review process.
Users should also be aware that third-party services cannot officially remove a WhatsApp ban. Account restrictions can only be reviewed or lifted by WhatsApp itself.
MCMC has advised affected users to first use WhatsApp&rsquo;s official account recovery and verification channels. If the issue remains unresolved, users can lodge a complaint with MCMC, which can then refer the matter to Meta for further action.
Do Not Share Your WhatsApp Verification Code

MCMC is also reminding Malaysians to take precautions against WhatsApp account takeovers.

If you receive a WhatsApp verification code despite not attempting to register your number on another device, do not share it with anyone. An unexpected code could indicate that someone is attempting to gain access to your account.
Users should also enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp and avoid clicking suspicious links or installing applications from unverified sources.
WhatsApp also offers additional security features, including passkeys, which can provide another layer of protection against attempts to take over an account.
Beware Of WhatsApp Account Recovery Scams

MCMC has urged affected users to rely on official WhatsApp channels rather than third parties offering account recovery services.

As complaints continue, MCMC said it will monitor the situation and work with the platform to protect the interests of affected users.

While promoting the film, Dawson revealed her disappointment over the scene being cut, while also expressing hope that she could play Claire again.
The reported re-release could finally give audiences the opportunity to see that footage.

In a statement released through their agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, BTS thanked their fans, known as ARMY, for their continued support.

Tencent has launched TenPayGo, a new mobile payment app designed to make it easier for international visitors to pay for goods, food and transport while travelling in China.
Developed by Tencent&rsquo;s Weixin Pay team, the app allows overseas travellers to link foreign-issued bank cards and selected international digital wallets without needing a Chinese mobile phone number.
The launch comes as China experiences growing inbound tourism, with Tencent looking to make its largely cashless payment ecosystem more accessible to international visitors. The app was unveiled at an international payment services event in Shenzhen, Guangdong, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders&rsquo; Meeting scheduled to take place in the city in November.
No Chinese Phone Number Required

One of TenPayGo&rsquo;s main features is its simplified registration process for overseas users.
Instead of requiring a Chinese mobile number, travellers can sign up using an email address and link payment methods issued in their home countries. The app supports bank cards from seven major international card networks, including Visa and Mastercard, as well as Apple Pay and around 60 overseas digital wallets.
Supported wallets include services such as Starryblu, Hipay and Octopus. However, the current list does not include Malaysian e-wallets such as Touch &rsquo;n Go eWallet or Boost.
Once a payment method is connected, users can scan and pay through TenPayGo at tens of millions of shops, restaurants and attractions connected to Tencent&rsquo;s Weixin Pay network.
This gives international travellers another option for making everyday payments in China without having to set up a local payment account.
TenPayGo is Tencent&rsquo;s first mobile payment app specifically designed for international visitors. The company&rsquo;s existing Weixin Pay service is integrated into WeChat, or Weixin as it is known in mainland China, which combines messaging, social media and digital payments in a single platform.
TenPayGo Also Supports Shenzhen Public Transport

Beyond shopping and dining, TenPayGo is also designed to help overseas visitors get around China.
The app currently allows international travellers to activate a ride code for Shenzhen&rsquo;s bus and metro networks directly from their smartphones. Users do not need a local phone number or a physical transport card to access the service.
The transport integration is currently focused on Shenzhen, although Tencent says it plans to gradually introduce more local transportation and lifestyle services through the platform.
The move could make TenPayGo particularly useful for visitors attending major events in the city, including the upcoming APEC summit.
Shenzhen, one of China&rsquo;s major technology hubs, will host the APEC Economic Leaders&rsquo; Meeting in November. It will be the third Chinese city to host the event, following Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.
AI Translation And Travel Tools

Tencent is also positioning TenPayGo as more than just a payment app by incorporating tools aimed at helping international visitors navigate China.

The app also includes an object-identification function that lets users scan and circle items on their screen to identify them, making it potentially useful when navigating unfamiliar surroundings.
Tencent has also said it is working with local banks on a tax-refund function. The planned feature is intended to support departure tax refunds for eligible overseas visitors, although details on its availability have yet to be announced.
Foreign Spending In China Is Rising

The launch of TenPayGo comes as spending by international visitors in China continues to increase.
According to data from Weixin Pay, the value of transactions made by overseas e-wallet users in China rose by 80.6 per cent year-on-year during the first eight months of 2026. The number of transactions also increased by 81.8 per cent over the same period.
China has been seeking to attract more international visitors through measures including expanded visa-free travel arrangements and improvements to its tourism infrastructure.
Official figures cited by Xinhua showed that foreign nationals made nearly 61.29 million border crossings into and out of China between January and August 2026, representing a 19.5 per cent increase from the previous year. Visa-free entries accounted for 23.72 million of those crossings, up 26.8 per cent year-on-year.
The increase in international travel has also encouraged Chinese technology companies to expand support for overseas payment services.
Tencent has previously worked to connect international digital wallets to its payment network, allowing visitors to make purchases in China through payment services they already use at home.
In May, Tencent announced an integration with PayPal that allows eligible US travellers to make payments at Weixin Pay merchants in China through the PayPal app.
Tencent Looks To Make China Travel More Accessible

TenPayGo represents another step in Tencent&rsquo;s efforts to bridge the gap between China&rsquo;s cashless payment ecosystem and international travellers.

Tencent has also said it will work with domestic online payment-clearing house NetsUnion to connect more overseas digital wallets to its payment network.
As international tourism to China continues to grow, TenPayGo could give foreign visitors a simpler way to pay for everyday expenses while also providing access to transport and travel-related services from a single smartphone.

Meta has unveiled its new Meta VR Glasses at Meta Connect 2026, introducing a lightweight virtual reality device that combines a glasses-like design with 5K micro-OLED displays, full-colour passthrough, eye and hand tracking, spatial audio and Meta AI.
Weighing around 100g, the device is designed to deliver VR entertainment, gaming and productivity without the bulk of a conventional headset. Meta says it will launch in spring 2027 for US$1,299.99, or roughly RM5,300. Malaysian pricing and availability have not been announced.
A Lightweight VR Design

The Meta VR Glasses are around five times lighter than the 515g Meta Quest 3. This is largely because Meta has divided the hardware between the glasses and a separate computing puck.
The glasses house the displays, pancake lenses, cameras and speakers, while the puck contains the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, battery and storage. It connects to the glasses through an optical tether and can be clipped to a pocket or bag.
The puck provides up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and supports 45W fast charging. The open-sided design and full-colour passthrough cameras also allow users to remain aware of their surroundings while using the glasses.
5K Micro-OLED Display And Spatial Audio

The Meta VR Glasses feature dual micro-OLED displays with a resolution of 2,412 x 2,288 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Meta says the displays deliver 37 pixels per degree and support Dolby Vision.
The glasses also feature integrated Dolby Atmos spatial audio, turning them into a portable virtual cinema for films and other entertainment.
Their field of view is approximately 70 degrees horizontally by 66 degrees vertically. That is considerably narrower than the Meta Quest 3, which has a field of view of about 110 by 96 degrees. However, the VR Glasses offer higher display resolution per eye and 37 pixels per degree, making clarity a major focus.
Eye Tracking, Hand Gestures And Meta AI

Meta is moving away from traditional controller-first interaction with the new glasses. Six outward-facing cameras support passthrough and hand tracking, while four inward-facing cameras provide eye tracking. Iris recognition is also available for biometric authentication.
Users can navigate the interface using their eyes, natural hand gestures or voice commands through Meta AI. More than 75 games are expected to support hand-controlled gameplay at launch, while Touch Plus controllers will remain compatible for experiences that require them.
The glasses also support Xbox Cloud Gaming, giving users access to hundreds of cloud-streamed games.
A Personal IMAX Cinema

Entertainment is one of Meta's biggest selling points for the VR Glasses. The device is the first VR product to receive IMAX Enhanced certification, with compatible content benefiting from the format's expanded aspect ratio and audio-visual specifications.
Disney+ is also bringing selected 3D films to the platform from November in select countries. Announced titles include Marvel films such as The Avengers and Black Panther, alongside themed environments inspired by locations including Tatooine and Avengers Tower.
Meta and Disney's Industrial Light &amp; Magic are also developing Disney Immersive Cinema experiences. These can go beyond placing a film on a virtual screen by adding immersive environments, dynamic effects, 3D visuals and spatial audio.
Meta says additional services including Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN and Tubi will be supported, while Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ are bringing 3D content to the platform. Meta is also working with James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision on films being brought to 3D in 2027.
Immersive Live Sports

Sports are another major part of Meta's pitch. The company says users will eventually be able to watch more than 100 immersive live sports events each year, with partners including MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports and UFC.
These experiences can use 8K streaming and 180-degree views to provide a more immersive perspective than a conventional broadcast.
A Virtual Office Anywhere

The Meta VR Glasses are also designed as a portable productivity platform. Users can connect them to a Mac or Windows PC and create multiple virtual displays, effectively carrying a multi-monitor setup without physical screens.
Meta says any flat surface can also be used as a virtual keyboard and touchpad. Full-colour passthrough allows users to continue seeing their desk, phone and surroundings while working.
Hologram Calling

Another new feature is Hologram Calling, which creates a photorealistic digital representation of the user for video calls. The system can reproduce facial expressions and reactions in real time, with spatial audio helping create the impression that participants are sharing the same space.
The feature is designed to work with calling platforms including WhatsApp and Zoom.
Meta VR Glasses Price And Release Date
Meta VR Glasses will go on sale in spring 2027 for US$1,299.99. The base configuration includes 128GB of storage, while storage can be expanded through a microSD card. Touch Plus controllers are sold separately.
Meta has not announced an exact release date, Malaysian pricing or an official Malaysia launch for the device.
With their 100g glasses form factor, high-resolution micro-OLED displays and external computing puck, Meta is positioning the VR Glasses as a new category between conventional VR headsets and lightweight augmented reality glasses. Its premium price will be one of the key factors to watch when it arrives in 2027.
