Japan&rsquo;s Princess Mako and Kei Komuro had announced their engagement since 2017 and their decision has been mired in scandal, public disapproval and tabloid frenzy.
The pair had intended to tie their knot in 2018, but their big day was postponed due to a "lack of preparation," said the Imperial family while some believe it was caused by claims Komuro's mother failed to repay a $36,000 loan from her previous fianc&eacute;.

According to CNN, Kei Komuro came back to Japan last month for their wedding (October 26) with a long hair tied in a ponytail, inviting a total scornful criticisms from public.

According to Hitomi Tonomura, a women's and gender studies professor at the University of Michigan, many perceived Komuro's ponytail as an indication he wasn't complying to social standards.
Tabloids are flooded with images of Komuro (30-year-old lawyer) from every angle, with some comparing it to a samurai&rsquo;s top knot. On social media, some complimented his new style, while others claimed it was inappropriate for the groom of a royal bride.
Komuro cut off his ponytail then before his wedding (today). But that don&rsquo;t stop those mouths from spitting out their other opinions and thoughts about the union of a princess with a non-royal blood.
"If he were a singer or artist, it would be fine, but people think he is not 'lawyer-like' nor looking appropriate for a person who will wed a royal woman," she explained.
Some of them (Japanese people) too believe that the commoner son (non-royal blood) of a single mother is unfit of a princess. Hitomi Tonomura proposed that &ldquo;In Japan, there is also an intense misogyny that debases single mothers morally and economically.&rdquo;
Single mothers in Japan are viewed as incapable of taking care of their children properly especially in concern to father figure, Komuro&rsquo;s upbringing in the eyes of Japanese people says more about gender inequality in the said community, which has the largest gender gap of all G7 countries.
Nonetheless, let put political views aside because after all, it is heart that matters and life is too short to impress other people instead of ours. Follow that heart!

His mother, Minerva Balisong, a 50-year-old critical care nurse, has made a heartfelt public appeal for David to get in touch, even just to confirm that he is alive. &ldquo;The emotion feels like a tsunami. We never saw this coming,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;We just want him to make contact. We&rsquo;re not angry &mdash; we love him more than he knows
No Warning Signs Before Departure

On the day he vanished, David left home slightly earlier than usual &mdash; around 6.30am &mdash; and told his younger brother that he had &ldquo;some things to do at school.&rdquo; Unbeknownst to his family, he had packed his passport and headed straight to the airport to catch a 9.30am international flight.
Later that evening, when David failed to return home, his worried parents began making calls to the school and eventually discovered that his passport was missing. The next day, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that David had travelled alone and had entered Malaysia on a 90-day tourist visa.
At the time of his departure, David had only &pound;1,200 in his bank account, and the family says he has since switched off his phone and stopped replying to emails. Born in the UK to Filipino parents, David has no known connections or relatives in Malaysia, making his choice of destination even more perplexing.

In one especially harrowing incident on 2 July 2024, Webb persuaded her to attempt suicide via a 44-minute video call. She passed out during the attempt, but survived. Upon regaining consciousness, Webb coldly instructed her to try again.

During sentencing at Leicester Crown Court on 4 July 2025, Webb appeared visibly distressed, at one point lying on the floor as a coping mechanism. His defence counsel, Joey Kwong, revealed that Webb had long suffered from autism spectrum disorder, borderline personality disorder, and depression.
Despite these conditions, the court was clear that his actions were deliberate and dangerous.
