Ever since the lockdown was lifted, we&rsquo;ve seen many people suddenly becoming nature lovers as they now seek to explore the thrills and adventures of hiking and jungle trekking.
Well, looks like you and your friends will have to pull the handbrake on your plans. For those in Selangor at least.

The forest reserves in Selangor will be closed till 31 January 2022 under the direction of the state Forestry Department.
Awh man, no more outdoors plans for now.
A notice was shared on their official Facebook page, but no clear reason was given for the closure.

The accused teacher has been suspended from duty and barred from entering school premises during the ongoing investigation. The school pledged full cooperation with police authorities and relevant government agencies and assured the public that it would honour its duty to protect students.
Psychological Support and Preventive Measures Announced
Keat Hwa Independent School said it would be offering psychological counselling and support to the affected student and family. Efforts are being made to protect the student&rsquo;s identity and prevent further trauma.
Furthermore, the school announced plans to reinforce professional codes of conduct among staff, strengthen mechanisms to prevent sexual harassment, and improve awareness of proper teacher-student boundaries.
The school also appealed for public understanding and urged all parties to respect the privacy of those involved and allow the legal process to take its course. &ldquo;We will handle this matter responsibly and transparently,&rdquo; the statement read. A dedicated reporting email &mdash; wecare@keathwa.edu.my &mdash; has been set up for students and parents, jointly monitored by the school board, PTA, and administration.
Former Student Reveals Past Case Involving Another Teacher

Amid the growing public attention, a former student took to social media to allege that a similar incident had occurred at Keat Hwa in the past involving a different teacher.
The teacher, identified only as &ldquo;Teacher Awxxx&rdquo;, allegedly used his phone to record female students under the guise of vlogging while walking through the school&rsquo;s corridors. The student claimed that despite the teacher&rsquo;s inappropriate behaviour, no action was taken &mdash; possibly due to his influential connections, including a spouse who is a high-profile lawyer.
This revelation has added to concerns about whether systemic inaction or institutional silence has allowed problematic conduct to go unchecked for years.

Part of a Disturbing Pattern: Other Chinese Schools Also Under Scrutiny

The scandal at Keat Hwa comes shortly after two other sexual harassment cases emerged from Chinese independent schools in Johor and Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.
At Foon Yew High School in Kulai, a male student was arrested on 8 April for allegedly distributing digitally generated pornographic images created from photos of female classmates. In a separate case at the Johor Bahru branch of the same school, a teacher was accused of sending pornographic links to a female colleague and behaving inappropriately toward several students. He was remanded on 16 April for investigation.
The string of recent cases has sparked alarm nationwide, with education stakeholders, parents, and advocacy groups calling for stronger safeguards, better digital education policies, and accountability within both public and private education systems.

Safeguarding Students in the Digital Era
The Keat Hwa case has reignited urgent conversations about student safety in an age where digital connectivity blurs the boundaries between appropriate interaction and predatory behaviour.
What was once limited to isolated, physical encounters can now intrude into students&rsquo; personal spaces through their mobile devices &mdash; often unnoticed by parents or school authorities. The troubling ease with which trust and authority can be weaponised through technology raises a critical question: how many students have suffered in silence, unsure of where to turn or fearful of the consequences of speaking out?
In the wake of this scandal, there is growing pressure on educational institutions to not only act decisively in response to such incidents, but to implement stronger preventative measures &mdash; including clearer conduct guidelines, digital awareness training, and confidential reporting channels &mdash; to ensure that no student is left unprotected in this new digital landscape.
Although Keat Hwa is a Chinese independent school, one hopes the Ministry of Education will not turn a blind eye. Action must be taken against the predatory behaviour of this nature &mdash; it is wholly unacceptable. No student, regardless of gender, should ever be subjected to such violations.
