<p>Looks like 2022 ain&rsquo;t starting too well for some as a massive volcanic eruption off the coast of the Pacific Island country of Tonga has erupted on 15 January.</p>
<p>The eruption had caused 105,000 residents to lose both phone and internet communication.</p>

<p><strong>The eruption was felt from many places around the world</strong></p>
<p>According to reports, the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga0Ha&rsquo;apai volcano had recorded a 5.8 magnitude earthquake and it had triggered multiple tsunami warnings across the countries surrounding it.</p>
<p>The volcanic eruption had also lasted for 8 minutes which caused a 1.2m tsunami in the capital of Tonga said the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia.</p>
<p>When we said the eruption was felt around the world, we do mean it. The eruption&rsquo;s sonic boom was heard from Fiji, New Zealand and even Alaska!</p>
<p>The tsunamis started hitting its shores causing many to be trapped. Peru, which is located approximately 10,691KM away had also suffered two large abnormal waves hitting it&rsquo;s coast.</p>

<p>Tonga had suffered communication issues for over 1.5hours as it&rsquo;s believed that the undersea internet cables between Tonga and Fiji were damaged. Dave Snider who is the National Tsunami Warning Centre coordinator said that it was unusual for a volcanic eruption to affect the entire ocean basin.</p>
<p>Even though it&rsquo;s erupted, some scientists believe that the volcano is actually bigger underground and has a possibility of erupting again in the future.</p>
<p><strong>New Zealand government offers to help those in Tonga</strong></p>
<p>Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had contacted Tonga&rsquo;s capital, Nuku&rsquo;alofa, and offered aid to them as it suffered &ldquo;significant damage&rdquo;.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Nuku&rsquo;alofa is covered in a thick film of volcanic dust, but otherwise conditions are calm and stable,&rdquo; said Ardern.</p>

<p>The newly upgraded Aerotrain at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is already under scrutiny following technical issues that occurred just one day after its relaunch. The Aerotrain, which links the Main Terminal with the Satellite Building, resumed operations on 1 July after a RM456 million upgrade. However, on 2 July, social media users reported that the service had already malfunctioned, raising alarm among travellers and netizens alike.</p>
<p>One Facebook user, Ahmad Ramadzan Soid, shared a photo of officials attending to the stalled Aerotrain at KLIA Terminal 1. In another post, Ashish Kale uploaded a photo of travellers boarding shuttle buses, suggesting the train was out of service.</p>

<p>At the time of reporting, no formal explanation was provided by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) as to whether the disruption was caused by a technical fault or part of post-launch operational fine-tuning. MAHB assured that technical teams were working to resolve the issue and are monitoring the system closely during this early phase of operations. Shuttle buses were deployed to maintain connectivity between terminals.</p>
<p>MAHB has also committed to improving the tunnel&rsquo;s drainage systems to prevent similar incidents in future weather events.</p>

MAHB confirmed that the new trains had undergone six months of testing under the supervision of the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) before the relaunch.</p>
