Meet Yohan Charles Jayasuriya or better known as the Iron Man of Sabah.

He&rsquo;s a Sabahan cosplayer who enjoys cosplaying different characters for events or private functions. He also does emceeing and is a DJ.
But what makes Yohan so special? For starters, he&rsquo;s climbed Malaysia&rsquo;s tallest mountain A.K.A Mt. Kinabalu twice and it was not in normal clothes but an Iron Man costume!
Recently, an NGO called Coalition Duchenne had held the 10th annual Mt. Kinabalu expedition and Yohan had gone up the 4,101-metre mountain.

The reason behind why he wore the Iron Man suit was to support and raise awareness for Duchenne syndrome or DMD. Aside from raising awareness for the disease, Yohan hopes to land his achievement in the Malaysian Book Of Records.

What is Duchenne Syndrome (DMD)?

For those who don&rsquo;t know, there are 3 types of Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy or better known as DMD is a genetic disease that occurs primarily in males and in rare cases, females. DMD mainly affects the muscles in our bodies and it cans tart as early as in our childhood where the muscles get weak and worsen over time.

Coalition Duchenne is also a non-profit organization who helps raise global awareness and funding for Duchenne muscular dystrophy via annual fund-raising events and donations.

In a dramatic conclusion to one of Malaysia&rsquo;s most high-profile political court cases in recent years, former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been fully acquitted of all corruption-related charges by the Court of Appeal. The unanimous decision, delivered by a three-judge panel, reverses the Kuala Lumpur High Court&rsquo;s previous conviction, which had sentenced the Muar MP to seven years in prison, two strokes of the rotan, and a RM10 million fine.
Justice Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, who chaired the panel, announced the decision on 25 June 2025, alongside Justices Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin. Justice Noorin, delivering the court&rsquo;s judgment, emphasised that the original trial had been marred by serious legal and procedural missteps, leading the panel to conclude that Syed Saddiq should never have been convicted in the first place.
Flawed Trial and Misinterpretation of Evidence

Justice Noorin explained that the trial judge had erred significantly in assessing the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defence. In particular, she stated that the judge failed to consider key pieces of contradictory evidence and had accepted witness testimony that may have been made under duress from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
&ldquo;The learned trial judge did not fairly evaluate the defence and wrongly treated it as a mere denial,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;There was no element of dishonesty when Syed Saddiq instructed his staff to withdraw party funds, as he was legally entitled to do so at the time.&rdquo;
The court ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the core elements of the offences, particularly the intent required for criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation, and money laundering. According to the judgment, the failure to properly direct the trial and the misinterpretation of legal standards warranted full appellate intervention.
The Charges and What They Meant
Syed Saddiq, 32, had been convicted in 2023 on four charges:

<li>Abetting criminal breach of trust involving RM1 million from Bersatu Youth (ARMADA) funds;</li>
<li>Dishonestly misusing RM120,000 from a company linked to ARMADA, allegedly for personal use;</li>
<li>Two counts of money laundering, involving RM50,000 each, transferred into his Amanah Saham Bumiputera account.</li>

The High Court had ordered the sentences for CBT and misappropriation to run consecutively, meaning he faced seven years in jail. The money laundering convictions would have added an additional two years, running concurrently. Syed Saddiq&rsquo;s sentence also included two strokes of the rotan and a RM10 million fine. The sentence had been stayed pending the appeal.
Emotional Reactions in the Courtroom

Once the verdict was delivered, he embraced his mother and father, Syed Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al-Sagoff, before performing sujud syukur &mdash; a prostration of gratitude &mdash; on the steps of the courtroom.
Present during the hearing was actress and singer Bella Astillah, a close friend of the family, who was seen seated with his relatives, wearing a floral blue baju kurung.
Legal Teams and Courtroom Proceedings
Syed Saddiq was represented by a formidable defence team comprising Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden and Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, while Deputy Public Prosecutors Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin and Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan led the prosecution.
The court has since ordered that his passport and bail money be returned. The Attorney General&rsquo;s Chambers has not yet confirmed whether it will seek to appeal the decision to the Federal Court.

However, the act that made headlines was when two students set fire to a large placard bearing Anwar&rsquo;s caricature and the words: &ldquo;MADANI: Protector of Sabah corruption.&rdquo; The imagery and bold message sparked both condemnation and debate.
One of the organisers, final-year student Fadhil Kasim, later took responsibility for the act on social media, defending it as a symbolic gesture rooted in historical student activism.

In his statement, Fadhil invoked the legacy of Anwar Ibrahim himself &mdash; who, as a student leader in the 1970s, led similar acts of protest. He pointed to Anwar&rsquo;s involvement in burning a copy of 13 Mei, a book by Malaysia&rsquo;s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, during a student demonstration over perceived injustices.
&ldquo;We were inspired by Anwar&rsquo;s own activism. Just as he once burned a book he believed undermined the truth, we burned his caricature to highlight betrayal and hypocrisy,&rdquo; Fadhil wrote. &ldquo;I&rsquo;d like to think Anwar, upon seeing the video, would be reminded of who he once was.&rdquo;
He also added that the outrage from Anwar's loyalists &mdash; including youth groups such as ABIM and AMK &mdash; missed the point, as they were more concerned with optics and reverence than the actual issues being raised.
UMS: Burning Was &lsquo;Immature and Uncivilised&rsquo;

The alleged financial misconduct is said to have taken place on 21 August 2018 at Public Bank&rsquo;s Bukit Damansara branch in Kuala Lumpur.
Trial Dates Set for 2026

After months of legal developments, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has now fixed 15 days for the full trial next year. Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad confirmed the following dates:

<li>18&ndash;22 May 2026</li>
<li>8&ndash;12 June 2026</li>
</ul>
The next case mention is scheduled for 27 October 2025, allowing the defence team more time to examine forensic reports and prepare their arguments. According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, the prosecution intends to call 26 witnesses to testify over the course of the trial.
Vivy and Fadzarudin, both aged 37, were not present during the recent case management hearing on 23 June 2025, as their legal counsel had secured an exemption from court attendance. The couple continues to be represented by lawyer M. Athimulan.
Pleading Not Guilty to CBT and Alternative Charge

The charges, first read in court on 5 December 2024, fall under Section 409 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 34, which pertains to criminal breach of trust (CBT) committed by a public servant or an individual in a position of trust. If found guilty, they face between two and 20 years&rsquo; imprisonment, whipping, and a fine.
Additionally, the couple faces an alternative charge under Section 403, also read with Section 34, for dishonestly misappropriating property belonging to the company. This charge carries a lighter penalty &mdash; a prison term ranging from six months to five years, and may also include caning and a fine upon conviction.
Both Vivy and Fadzarudin have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Controversy Surrounding Internal Acquisition

The acquisition was made through the issuance of 851,686 new ordinary shares in FashionValet. According to filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), the internal valuation placed the value of the dUCk brand at RM68.8 million, with an additional RM21 million assigned as goodwill.
Although 30 Maple had posted profits of RM8.5 million in 2017 and RM7.7 million in 2018 &mdash; along with a RM10 million dividend payout &mdash; the timing and structure of the RM95 million acquisition deal sparked scepticism.
Critics argue that the founders effectively channelled public investment funds back into their personal company, raising ethical concerns over whether such internal transactions should have received greater scrutiny, especially given the involvement of taxpayer-linked capital.
From Digital Darlings to Legal Defendants
