The talk of public transport has been a hot topic over the recent months. Aside from the goods that our systems are slowly getting updated and there are new trains coming into service to help cater to the vast number of people using public transport, there are still some cons of it.
In retrospect, many Malaysians would rather take public transport to get around town as its cheaper and can cut journey times down quite significantly (depending on where we go). Plus, it beats sitting traffic all day and only for us to realise we are almost out of fuel.

But when we really look at things, how good and ready is our public transport system to serve us Malaysians? To note, they too have been slammed multiple times on social media by netizens in the past.

RapidKL Slammed For Lacking OKU Facilities
Recently, netizen @DoShaSoo had took to Twitter to share her story of how several RapidKL staff had assisted her wheelchair-bound husband down the stairs at the Hang Tuah and Imbi Station.

At the time of writing this, the tweet had gained 770 retweets and 1.1K likes on the platform.
The main purpose of her tweet aside from thanking the worker is to make Malaysians aware that our public transportation is lacking OKU friendly facilities. Despite the device to assist those on wheelchairs up to the platform being there, it has been left to unrepaired as it broke down a year ago.
She also added that it is a hassle for staff to assist those in need as they have to carry the wheelchair up and down the flight of stairs.

In the past, aside from our OKU facilities, even every day facilities such as escalators have been giving issues to many netizens who use public transport.

At the time of writing this, RapidKL has yet to respond to the issue.
Many Malaysians are complaining about the lengthy repair times for all our broken facilities. Signs placed on the facilities keep extending as authorities had issued a statement saying that they are forced to wait for spare parts to be delivered since the lockdown in China. &nbsp;

RapidKL Slammed Over The Lack Of OKU-Friendly Facilities

The Malaysian government is set to roll out a two-tier pricing system for RON95 fuel by mid-2025, utilising MyKad as the primary tool for determining subsidy eligibility. This move is part of a broader effort to transition from a blanket subsidy to a more targeted approach. Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, confirmed that the system is in its final stages of development and is expected to be officially implemented in the second half of the year.
&ldquo;As I have answered multiple times in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, the mechanism is still being refined,&rdquo; Amir Hamzah stated. &ldquo;We do not want to pre-announce something while we are still working on it because the most important thing is to ensure that the system is robust.&rdquo;
Two-Tier Pricing: Who Will Benefit?

Under this new system, fuel prices will be divided into subsidised and non-subsidised rates. It is estimated that more than 85% of the Malaysian population will benefit from the subsidised rate, while higher-income groups&mdash;particularly those with a household income of RM12,000 and above&mdash;will be required to pay the market price.
The MyKad system will serve as the verification tool at petrol stations, ensuring that only eligible individuals receive the fuel subsidy. This approach aims to curb misuse and ensure subsidies reach those who genuinely need them, aligning with the government's broader economic reform efforts.
MyKad System Modelled After SARA Programme

The idea of using MyKad as a tool for fuel subsidies was inspired by the existing Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, which enables low-income recipients to purchase essential goods using their national identification card. Currently, the SARA system supports 700,000 recipients at over 3,500 participating retail stores and supermarkets. This number is set to increase significantly to 5.4 million recipients by April 2025.
&ldquo;If we can use MyKad for 5.4 million recipients with 3,500 stores, it&rsquo;s not that different and we could also use the same system for RON95,&rdquo; said Amir Hamzah, stressing that the system has already demonstrated its effectiveness.
Government&rsquo;s Plan to Save RM8 Billion Annually

Currently, Malaysia spends approximately RM20 billion per year to keep RON95 fuel prices capped at RM2.05 per litre. By shifting to a targeted subsidy, the government anticipates reducing this expenditure by RM8 billion annually, freeing up funds for other critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
Implementation Timeline and Public Response
Although the government has provided a broad outline of the new subsidy mechanism, official implementation details are still being finalised. Amir Hamzah reassured the public that the system would only be introduced once it has been fully tested and optimised for efficiency.

Malaysia&rsquo;s mixed doubles badminton duo, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, are officially parting ways following a decision by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam confirmed that the split was made after a thorough evaluation and recommendations from the coaching panel.

&ldquo;We have received the report and final recommendation from the coaches,&rdquo; he reiterated. &ldquo;The pair will be split for upcoming tournaments, and we have also agreed to give the coaches some time to experiment with potential new pairings.&rdquo;

The decision to split the world-ranked No. 4 pair follows a period of tension between the two players. Reports indicate that BAM had already provided a cooling-off period for the duo in an attempt to mend their deteriorating partnership. However, these claims were contested by other social media users who shared images showing operational flight information display systems, casting doubt on the severity of the disruption.

From 1st April 2025, all applications for hiking and recreational activities in Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests (HSK) must be made online via the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest). This move, announced by the Selangor Forestry Department on 20th March, aims to simplify the permit application process, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly by reducing paperwork.
Previously, hikers and outdoor lovers had to download and complete a form, submit it via email or in person at a forestry district office, and make payments through bank draft, postal order, or cash at the counter. With SeForest, the entire process is now digital, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience.
Which Locations Require an ePermit?

How to Apply for an ePermit

Strict Penalties for Illegal Entry

Since 1st September 2024, restrictions have been in place regarding the maximum number of visitors allowed per day in 43 recreational and hiking sites across Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests. This measure was introduced to reduce environmental strain and protect the delicate ecosystems within these reserves.
The daily visitor cap varies based on the size and ecological sensitivity of each forest reserve, with limits ranging from 150 to 300 people per day. Additionally, certain locations require hikers to hire a certified mountain guide (Malim Gunung Perhutanan) before attempting specific trails to ensure safety and environmental conservation.
Temporary Closures for Hari Raya Aidilfitri
