While the average individual may not prioritize having a fancy or unique number plate, it's worth noting that certain plates can command a hefty price tag. This holds particularly true for special releases or coveted single-digit numbers.
YDPA Wins Bid For GOLD 1 Number Plate

On February 1st, the Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) initiated the auction for the exclusive GOLD number plate series, introduced in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Federal Territories, marking its golden jubilee.
The online bidding for this special number plate series took place on the JPJeBid platform from February 1st to 5th, featuring starting bids at RM20,000, the attractive category at RM3,000, the popular category at RM800, and the running category at RM300.
Proceeds from the sale of these unique GOLD plates will be directed to the Federal Government, contributing to the implementation of initiatives by the Transport Ministry, including support for driving licenses, helmets, and the FlySISWA subsidy program.

In case you're not aware, when it comes to bidding for number plates, single-digit plates often command a substantial amount of money. Not surprisingly, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim clinched the winning bid by shelling out a staggering RM1.5 million for the plate. As revealed in the post on His Majesty's official Facebook page, this bidding amount stands as the highest in the nation's history. The plate was formally presented to the King by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

This isn't the first instance where His Majesty has grabbed the spotlight. He is also the proud owner of the distinctive "FF1" plate, secured through a winning bid of RM1.2 million in June 2023. At that time, the FF special plate raked in a staggering RM34.4 million in revenue for the Federal Government. As for the "GOLD" special plate, the total revenue is yet to be disclosed by the transport ministry.
