That nostalgia is at the heart of Inside Scoop&rsquo;s Lokal Legends 2026, which returns this year with its biggest collection yet. The annual campaign brings together nine familiar Malaysian brands and transforms their signature products into limited-edition ice cream flavours.
Launched in conjunction with Malaysia&rsquo;s National Day celebrations, the campaign celebrates the local brands that have become part of everyday Malaysian life &mdash; this time, with a scoopable twist.

Together, the nine limited-edition flavours put familiar Malaysian favourites into a completely different form, bringing everything from childhood snacks and kopitiam staples to popular local drinks into a single collection.
From Local Favourites To Ice Cream

Since its introduction in 2024, Lokal Legends has grown into one of Inside Scoop&rsquo;s most anticipated annual campaigns, with fans often guessing which brands will make the next lineup and sharing their wishlists online.
According to Inside Scoop Co-Founder Edmund Tan, the campaign is about celebrating the brands that have become part of the Malaysian experience.
He said the excitement surrounding each year's reveal reflects the strong connection Malaysians have with homegrown brands &mdash; from those they grew up with to those associated with family gatherings and everyday routines.
This year&rsquo;s partners share a similar sentiment, with each bringing a familiar product and story into an entirely different format. Secret Recipe Group CEO Patrick Sim revealed that the Chocolate Indulgence&reg; collaboration went through 13 different versions before arriving at the final recipe.
ZUS Coffee, meanwhile, is bringing its popular Ube flavour into ice cream after receiving an enthusiastic response to its Ube drinks last year.
A Supermarket Full Of Malaysian Nostalgia

For 2026, Inside Scoop has taken the campaign beyond the flavours themselves with a supermarket-inspired concept.
Supermarkets are a familiar part of everyday Malaysian life, bringing together everything from breakfast staples and snacks to drinks and treats. Inside Scoop has recreated that experience through the Lokal Legends Supermarket, bringing all nine collaborations together under one roof.
For the campaign launch, the Inside Scoop outlet at Galeria SA Sentral was transformed into the themed supermarket. Visitors could explore dedicated brand aisles, learn more about the collaborations and sample the new flavours in an interactive setting.
The concept also gives the campaign a nostalgic feel, connecting the ice cream flavours with the products and brands Malaysians might usually find while doing their weekly grocery shopping.

Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, former gang leader Duane &ldquo;Keffe D&rdquo; Davis has been found guilty of murder, marking the first conviction in one of the most famous unsolved cases in hip-hop history. A Nevada jury convicted the 63-year-old on 31 August 2026 after less than three hours of deliberation, bringing a major development to a case that has been surrounded by rumours and conspiracy theories for decades.
Who Was Tupac Shakur?

Tupac was shot four times and died from his injuries six days later, on 13 September 1996. His death turned him into an enduring cultural figure, with his music and influence continuing to shape hip-hop generations later.
Jury Finds Keffe D Guilty After Decades Of Mystery

Davis was convicted of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon for his role in orchestrating Tupac&rsquo;s killing.
Prosecutors argued throughout the trial that Davis did not need to be the gunman to be held responsible. Instead, they portrayed him as the person who organised the attack, obtained the firearm and directed the group involved in the shooting.
According to prosecutors, the motive was retaliation after Davis&rsquo; nephew, Orlando &ldquo;Baby Lane&rdquo; Anderson, became involved in a fight with Tupac and members of his entourage at a Las Vegas casino earlier that night.
Authorities said Davis and several other men subsequently went searching for Tupac and Knight in a white Cadillac. When they found the pair&rsquo;s BMW at a traffic light, someone in the back seat opened fire.
Davis was the only person from the Cadillac who was still alive by the time the case eventually reached court. Anderson, who was long suspected of being the gunman, died in an unrelated shooting in 1998 and was never charged over Tupac&rsquo;s death.
Davis&rsquo; Own Words Became Key Evidence

Malaysia is expected to recruit around 200,000 migrant workers from Bangladesh over the next six months, with the recruitment process reportedly set to begin in phases from the end of September 2026.
The planned intake was announced by Bangladeshi Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives junior minister Mir Shahe Alam, who said the workers would be brought in through agencies and companies approved by Malaysian authorities.

The announcement came following a meeting in Dhaka between Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman and Bangladesh's Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan.
Bangladeshi authorities said the discussions covered labour recruitment as well as efforts to strengthen relations between Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Wants Undocumented Workers Legalised

Malaysians applying for a new or replacement MyKad may need to put their plans on hold as the National Registration Department (JPN) temporarily disrupts printing services nationwide during the transition to the new-generation identity card.
The disruption is expected to continue from 1 September until 7 September 2026, with JPN advising members of the public who do not urgently need to replace or renew their MyKad to postpone their applications during this period.
The temporary disruption comes as the department works to move away from the current MyKad structure and towards the New Generation MyKad, which is being introduced in phases.
JPN Advises Malaysians To Delay Non-Urgent MyKad Applications

JPN said the temporary interruption is part of its efforts to implement the new-generation MyKad and asked the public for patience and cooperation while the transition takes place.
The department also apologised for any inconvenience caused and said further information would be provided through its official communication channels.
Children Turning 12 Are Also Advised To Wait

Parents and guardians of children who are turning 12 are among those specifically advised to delay their applications.
Under normal circumstances, children are required to apply for their first MyKad after turning 12. However, JPN is encouraging families to wait for the time being so that these first-time applicants can receive the new-generation MyKad once its issuance becomes available.
This means parents with children reaching the age of 12 around the transition period may want to postpone the application rather than proceed with the existing card.
JPN has not yet provided a specific date for when applications for the new-generation MyKad will fully open to all eligible applicants.
Existing MyKad Cards Remain Valid

Despite the introduction of the new card, Malaysians do not need to rush to replace their existing MyKad.
JPN had previously clarified that the current MyKad remains valid and can continue to be used for official transactions. The new-generation version is being introduced gradually, with priority given to certain categories of applicants.
This includes Malaysians who are still using older legacy identity cards, such as the Plastic Identity Card, High Quality Identity Card and early-generation MyKad versions that do not feature the ghost image security element.
As a result, Malaysians holding a valid current-generation MyKad do not need to replace it simply because a newer version has been introduced.
New-Generation MyKad Introduced With Enhanced Security

The new-generation MyKad was officially introduced in June 2026 as part of the government's efforts to strengthen Malaysia's national identity card system.
The new version reportedly contains 53 security features, aimed at improving protection against forgery and identity-related fraud.
However, the rollout is being carried out in stages rather than through a blanket replacement exercise. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has also said there are no plans to require every Malaysian to immediately replace their existing MyKad.
This means the current card will continue to be recognised while the new-generation version is gradually introduced.
MyKad Replacement Fees Are Not Changing

The introduction of the new-generation MyKad is also not expected to result in a change to the standard application and replacement fees.

The government has also disclosed that each new-generation MyKad costs approximately RM40 to produce under the current procurement arrangement, with the card supply contract valued at RM732.72 million over six years.
When Will MyKad Printing Resume?
For now, JPN expects the temporary disruption to MyKad printing services to continue until 7 September 2026.
Malaysians with non-urgent applications are therefore encouraged to wait until after the disruption before proceeding. Parents applying for their child's first MyKad at age 12 are similarly encouraged to hold off until more information about the new-generation card becomes available.
JPN said Malaysians should follow its official channels for updates on the rollout, application process and availability of the new-generation MyKad.
For those who do not urgently need a new identity card, waiting until the transition period is over could help avoid unnecessary delays while allowing them to better understand when and how the new MyKad will be issued.

MyKad Printing Services Disrupted Until 7 September As Malaysia Introduces New-Generation Card

Malaysians who rely heavily on their vehicles have some good news as the government has restored the monthly BUDI95 subsidised RON95 quota to 300 litres, effective 1 September 2026.
The increase reverses the temporary reduction from 300 litres to 200 litres introduced in April. At the same time, eligible private diesel-powered pick-up and jeep owners can now receive up to 400 litres of subsidised diesel per month.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the changes during his National Day address on 30 August, saying the government was acting ahead of Budget 2027 because cost-of-living pressures could not wait until October. The Finance Ministry subsequently confirmed that the revised quotas would be implemented automatically for eligible existing recipients.
BUDI95 Quota Returns To 300 Litres

Under BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), eligible Malaysians can purchase subsidised RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre.
From 1 September, the basic monthly eligibility limit has increased from 200 litres to 300 litres, essentially restoring the quota that was in place when BUDI95 was first introduced in September 2025.
The government said around 16 million Malaysians benefit from subsidised RON95 under the programme. The adjustment is automatic for existing eligible BUDI95 recipients, meaning they do not need to submit a new application simply because the quota has increased.
The original reduction to 200 litres took effect on 1 April 2026 as the government responded to higher global crude oil prices and increased subsidy costs.
Why Was The Quota Reduced In The First Place?

The 200-litre limit was introduced as a temporary measure amid significant pressure on the government's fuel subsidy bill.
At the time, the government said the adjustment was necessary as international oil prices rose sharply, increasing the cost of maintaining subsidised fuel. However, the lower quota also prompted complaints from some motorists, particularly those who travel long distances for work, family commitments or business.
With the latest adjustment, the government says it has taken into account the needs of Malaysians who rely heavily on their vehicles, including those travelling long distances and small traders who depend on vehicles for their livelihoods.
The Finance Ministry also said the restoration was made possible by better fuel supply management, stronger enforcement, improved economic performance and the government's current financial capacity.
BUDI Diesel Quota Can Go Up To 400 Litres

There is also an increase for eligible diesel vehicle owners.
The basic BUDI Diesel monthly entitlement has been restored to 300 litres, with subsidised diesel remaining at RM2.10 per litre.
Eligible owners of private diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeeps can apply for an additional 100 litres, bringing their total monthly entitlement to up to 400 litres.
More than half a million eligible diesel vehicle owners can apply for the additional allocation.
Those who were already approved for the extra 100 litres do not need to apply again, as their entitlement will be automatically adjusted to 400 litres from 1 September. Those who have not applied can submit their application through the BUDI MADANI portal.
No Need To Reapply For The Basic Increase
For existing BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel recipients, the return to the higher basic quota is automatic, subject to their existing eligibility.
This means eligible BUDI95 users will receive the revised 300-litre monthly limit, while eligible BUDI Diesel recipients will receive the applicable revised allocation without having to restart the application process.
For pick-up and jeep owners seeking the additional 100 litres under BUDI Diesel, a separate application is still required unless they have already received approval previously.
Government Says Subsidies Must Still Be Protected From Misuse

Despite increasing the quotas, the government said it would continue strengthening measures to prevent subsidy leakage, smuggling and misuse.
BUDI95 was originally designed as a targeted fuel subsidy system, with eligibility tied to Malaysian citizenship and driving licence information.
When the programme was launched, the government said the 300-litre ceiling was already sufficient for the overwhelming majority of private motorists, based on national vehicle usage data.
The latest restoration therefore does not represent a return to an unrestricted blanket petrol subsidy.
What Malaysians Need To Know
For eligible motorists, the changes from 1 September 2026 are straightforward:
BUDI95: Up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 per month at RM1.99 per litre.
BUDI Diesel: Up to 300 litres per month at RM2.10 per litre for eligible recipients.
Private diesel pick-up and jeep owners: Up to 400 litres per month with the additional 100-litre allocation, subject to eligibility and application requirements.
Anwar has positioned the move as an immediate measure to help ease cost-of-living pressures before Budget 2027, which is due to be tabled in October.

Since launching the original Sambal Nyet Berapi in 2021, Khairul Aming has built one of Malaysia's most successful local food brands. The range later expanded with Dendeng Nyet Berapi and Rendang Nyet Berapi, but fans have been waiting six years for an entirely new sambal.
Now, that wait is over.
According to Khairul, Sambal Nyet Bilis offers a completely different flavour from its predecessor, featuring a richer recipe with more ingredients and a spicier, more aromatic taste.
Unlike the original Sambal Nyet Berapi, which relies heavily on red chillies, the new recipe uses 75% green chillies and 25% red chillies, creating a gentler yet more fragrant heat while maintaining its signature kick.
Fresh anchovies are the star ingredient, complemented by tomatoes, kaffir lime leaves and belacan to produce a sambal inspired by traditional Malaysian flavours.
Personally Sourcing Ingredients Across Malaysia

One of the highlights of the launch was Khairul Aming documenting his journey across Malaysia to source the best local ingredients personally.
Rather than simply purchasing raw materials, he travelled to Setiu, Terengganu, where he joined local fishermen out at sea to witness first-hand the demanding process of catching fresh anchovies. He explained that the experience gave him a greater appreciation for the hard work involved in producing what many Malaysians often consider an everyday ingredient.
He also visited chilli farms in Banting, Selangor, learning directly from local farmers about cultivating high-quality chillies before selecting those best suited for the new sambal recipe.
The approach reflects Khairul's continued emphasis on working closely with Malaysian suppliers while highlighting the people behind the country's food industry.
100% Malaysian From Farm To Factory

Khairul also revealed that every stage of production remains entirely local.
After sourcing ingredients from around the country, Sambal Nyet Bilis is produced at RASAPOP's manufacturing facilities in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, where all processes&mdash;including quality control, cooking, bottling, packaging and distribution&mdash;take place under one roof.
The company now operates three factories capable of producing more than 12,000 bottles daily, while providing employment for around 100 local workers.
Describing the product, Khairul said it is:
"Inspired by local flavours, made using local ingredients, produced by local people for the world to enjoy."
Biggest Product Launch Yet

Khairul Aming has described the upcoming release as the largest product launch since he started his business.
The first sales batch will consist of 125,000 bottles, all of which will be released during a special TikTok LIVE session on:

Local fast-food chain Ahmad's Fried Chicken has officially rebranded as Ahmad's HotChicken, unveiling a refreshed identity alongside one of its boldest moves yet &ndash; the appointment of an "AI CEO" to help manage the business.
The announcement has quickly attracted attention online, with the company claiming to be among the first fast-food brands in Malaysia to integrate artificial intelligence into such a senior leadership role.
AI To Support Operations And Business Decisions

The brand said artificial intelligence will help it make faster, data-driven decisions while enhancing the overall customer experience.
"AI technology enables us to work faster, make decisions based on data and continuously improve the customer experience. It is part of Ahmad's direction to build the fast-food brand of the future," the company said.
While the announcement refers to an "AI CEO", the company has not disclosed exactly which AI system is being used or how much authority it has within the organisation.
Based on the company's statement, the AI appears to function more as a digital executive assistant or decision-support system rather than replacing a human chief executive entirely.
At the time of writing, Ahmad's HotChicken has yet to provide further technical details on how the AI will operate.
More Than Just A Name Change

The rebranding goes beyond a new logo and name.
Ahmad's says it has rebuilt the brand from the ground up, refreshing its menu, recipes, customer experience and overall identity to create what it describes as a more modern and distinctive spicy fried chicken brand.
One of the biggest additions is its new "5 Levels of Heat" system, allowing customers to customise the spiciness of their meals. The heat scale ranges from Scaredy Cat for those who prefer no spice, followed by Low Key, Mid, Nocap Hot, and finally Reaper, which uses the famously fiery Carolina Reaper chilli.
The chain said the idea is to let customers choose a spice level that best suits their own tolerance rather than offering a one-size-fits-all experience. Alongside its fried chicken, Ahmad's HotChicken has also introduced new menu items, including Signature Mac &amp; Cheese, made with three types of cheese and topped with crispy beef bacon.
Some customers have also noticed that several promotional visuals and menu graphics appear to have been generated using AI, although the company has not officially confirmed this.
More Than 40 Outlets Across Malaysia

Although artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in customer service and business operations, appointing an AI to a leadership role remains highly unusual.
One of the best-known examples is Dictador Europe, a Polish spirits company that introduced an AI-powered robot named Mika as its CEO in 2023.
