Nearly 200,000 owners of diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeep-type vehicles across Malaysia will receive a larger monthly allocation of subsidised fuel under the BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel) programme, following the Ministry of Finance's latest announcement.
Beginning this month, eligible recipients will see their monthly subsidised diesel quota increase from 200 litres to 300 litres, providing an additional 100 litres to better support motorists who rely heavily on their vehicles for work, business and travel.
The move comes just days after the nationwide rollout of the BUDI Diesel programme, which was introduced in Peninsular Malaysia on 27 June before expanding to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan on 1 July.
Government Increases Monthly Quota To 300 Litres

According to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the increased allocation has been approved for almost 200,000 vehicle owners nationwide.
The expanded quota benefits more than 174,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia, alongside over 22,000 recipients in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, as of 4 July.
Eligible owners can continue purchasing subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre, with the higher quota taking effect immediately from July.
The ministry explained that the additional allocation takes into account the significantly higher fuel consumption of diesel pick-up trucks and jeep-type vehicles, many of which are used for commercial purposes or frequent travel to rural and remote areas.
Designed To Support Those Who Depend On Their Vehicles

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government recognises that these vehicles are more than just personal transport.
For many Malaysians, especially small business owners, farmers, contractors and those living outside urban areas, pick-up trucks and diesel utility vehicles are essential tools for earning a living and managing everyday family responsibilities.
He said the additional 100 litres is intended to help eligible recipients better manage their monthly fuel expenses while ensuring government assistance reaches those who genuinely require it.
Public Response Has Been Encouraging

The BUDI Diesel programme has recorded strong public participation since its implementation.
According to Amir Hamzah, more than 238,000 users have already benefited from the initiative.
Between the programme's early access period on 27 June and 4 July, more than 336,000 subsidised diesel transactions were successfully recorded.
During that period, motorists purchased approximately 12.6 million litres of subsidised diesel, with the government providing more than RM23 million in fuel subsidies.
The recorded transactions include purchases made during the early access phase when diesel was priced at RM2.15 per litre, before the official subsidised price was reduced to RM2.10 per litre following the programme's full implementation on 1 July.
Eligibility Transfer Now Available For Family Members
Following public feedback, the government has also introduced a new eligibility transfer mechanism under BUDI Diesel.
The new feature is designed to help families where the registered vehicle owner is not the person who regularly drives the vehicle, or where ownership records have yet to be updated.
Under the new system, registered BUDI Diesel recipients can apply through the official BUDI MADANI portal to transfer subsidy eligibility to an immediate family member, subject to verification and programme conditions.
Alternatively, motorists may choose to officially update their vehicle ownership records with the Road Transport Department (JPJ). To encourage ownership updates, the government has also waived diesel vehicle ownership transfer fees for three months starting from 1 July 2026.
So far, more than 2,000 transfer applications have already been submitted through the portal.
More Eligible Owners Can Still Apply

Owners of eligible diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeep-type vehicles who have not yet received the additional 100-litre allocation can still submit an application through the <a href="https://www.budimadani.gov.my/">BUDI MADANI portal</a>.
The same online portal is also used for eligibility transfer requests and ownership-related updates.
The government has encouraged eligible motorists to apply if they have yet to join the programme.
Programme Will Continue To Be Refined Using Real Data
Although the programme is still in its early stages, the government says it will continue monitoring its implementation closely.
Amir Hamzah explained that BUDI Diesel will adopt a data-driven approach, with future improvements based on actual fuel usage patterns, public feedback and industry input rather than assumptions.
He pointed to previous adjustments made under other targeted subsidy initiatives, where fuel quotas were revised after analysing consumption data to better reflect real-world usage.
The minister added that it is still too early to determine the total savings generated by the targeted diesel subsidy programme, as transaction data is still being collected and verified.
However, initial feedback from petrol station operators suggests diesel sales volumes have already declined slightly, indicating fewer purchases by motorists who are not eligible for subsidised fuel.
The government believes this will help reduce subsidy leakages and ensure public funds are directed towards Malaysians who genuinely qualify, while allowing future savings to be channelled into additional assistance programmes.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has criticised telecommunications companies for being too slow in addressing poor internet coverage in rural areas, saying they already have the necessary data to identify problem locations but are not acting quickly enough.
Speaking after inspecting telecommunications issues in Kampung Parit Jepon, Bukit Naning, Johor, Fahmi said he would soon meet telecommunications companies and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to seek explanations and push for faster improvements.
He argued that while both the government and telcos possess detailed network data, it is not being fully utilised to resolve connectivity issues affecting residents.
"People expect 5G, but the speed at which telcos solve customers' problems is probably still at the level of 2G or EDGE," he remarked.
Telco CEOs Told To "Turun Padang"

Fahmi said he personally visited the village together with Johor MCMC director Syed Isa Shekh Alsagoff after receiving complaints from residents about poor mobile coverage.
Although there is already a telecommunications tower serving Bukit Naning, he said the signal remains insufficient to cover Kampung Parit Jepon and nearby areas effectively. As a result, MCMC will issue notices requiring the relevant telecommunications companies to immediately carry out network optimisation works.
Beyond improving the existing network, Fahmi said the ministry is also considering building additional telecommunications towers to strengthen coverage in Batu 14, Batu 15 and Batu 16, where the area's terrain, along with extensive oil palm and pineapple plantations, has weakened signal reception.
The minister added that connectivity issues are not confined to rural villages, pointing out that several rapidly developing areas have also been overlooked in network upgrade plans.
He said these shortcomings would be raised directly with telecommunications providers during upcoming discussions.
Fahmi also revealed that his visit was part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's directive for ministers to inspect issues on the ground personally.
He said he hopes telecommunications company chief executive officers will accompany him on future visits so they can witness first-hand the difficulties residents face when communication services are unreliable.
MOCN Expansion Planned To Improve Rural Coverage

Separately, Fahmi announced that MCMC plans to expand the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) initiative nationwide to improve internet connectivity in underserved areas.
The initiative allows telecommunications companies to share existing network infrastructure, enabling multiple operators to provide mobile coverage through the same towers instead of building separate facilities.
According to Fahmi, the programme has already been implemented at five locations:

<li>Prima Gambang, Pahang</li>
<li>Kota Seri Langat Toll Plaza on the West Coast Expressway in Banting, Selangor</li>

He said MCMC is now identifying suitable locations in Johor, where many rural communities continue to experience weak 4G and 5G coverage.
One of the key challenges, he explained, is that many homes are surrounded by dense oil palm plantations, which can obstruct mobile signals.
Johor remains one of the ministry's priority states as it works towards improving connectivity across underserved communities.
Government Still Targeting Full Coverage By 2027

Despite the ongoing challenges, the Ministry of Communications says it remains on track to achieve 100% internet coverage in populated areas nationwide by 2027 through the National Digital Connectivity Plan (JENDELA).
The ministry previously reported that broadband coverage had reached 99.71% of populated areas as of the end of last year, a significant improvement from around 90% before JENDELA was introduced.
Moving forward, the government and MCMC will continue expanding internet access by encouraging greater infrastructure sharing between telecommunications companies, particularly in rural and remote areas.
The ministry believes the approach will accelerate network deployment, improve service quality and support sectors such as education, business and the wider digital economy.

Khalid Is Coming To KL This December For His “It’s Always Summer Somewhere” Tour

A 15-year-old student was left seriously injured after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times by another student at a secondary school in Banting, Selangor, on Monday morning (6 July).
The victim, a Form Three student at a school in Kuala Langat, suffered around 14 to 16 stab wounds, mainly to her back, as well as injuries to her face, head and left lung. She was rushed to Hospital Banting for treatment and was later reported to be in stable condition.
Her father, Mohd Firuz Ibrahim, 43, said he was at work when he noticed several missed calls from his daughter&rsquo;s teacher. Initially thinking his daughter may have fallen ill, he was shocked after learning she had been attacked.
&ldquo;When I arrived at the hospital, her condition was quite serious. She was taken for scans to determine the extent of her injuries,&rdquo; he said.
Doctors reportedly inserted a tube to drain blood from her left lung, while her father confirmed that she remained conscious and able to speak despite the severity of her injuries.
Father Believes Daughter Was Not The Intended Target

Mohd Firuz said his daughter knew the 15-year-old suspect, as both had previously been classmates in Form Two. However, he said his daughter had never complained about any conflict, bullying or disputes involving the suspect.
He believes his daughter may have been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
&ldquo;Maybe she wanted to target someone else, but my daughter happened to be the closest to her at that moment. Perhaps my daughter did not have enough time to run away,&rdquo; he said.
He added that his daughter had been studying at the school for three years and had never reported experiencing problems with other students.
Following the incident, Mohd Firuz called for schools to strengthen security measures, including screening individuals entering school premises to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Students Describe Moment Attack Happened During Recess

The incident reportedly occurred at around 9.30am during the Form Three students&rsquo; recess break.
According to students who spoke to local media, the victim had just purchased food from the school canteen and was preparing to sit down when she was allegedly attacked.
One student claimed the suspect approached the canteen area from the direction of the school&rsquo;s surau before the incident took place.
The attack caused panic among students, with several seen running for safety. Teachers later gathered students at the school field as a precaution while authorities responded to the situation.
Videos circulating online showed a teenage girl dressed in black walking around the school compound while holding a knife, while students could be seen fleeing the area.
Police later detained the suspect and seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
Police Investigating Case As Attempted Murder

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed that the suspect, also aged 15, had been arrested.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
Police have not confirmed the motive behind the incident or addressed various claims circulating online, including speculation regarding alleged bullying or the suspect&rsquo;s previous disciplinary history.
Authorities have urged the public not to spread unverified information while investigations are ongoing.
Education Ministry Provides Support For School Community

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek visited the school following the incident and said the ministry&rsquo;s main priority was ensuring the victim received proper medical care while providing psychosocial support for affected students, teachers and school staff.

&ldquo;Our primary focus right now is ensuring the victim receives medical treatment. Concurrently, providing a psychosocial support system for the school community is the ministry&rsquo;s top priority,&rdquo; she said in a statement.
The Selangor Education Department also confirmed it was cooperating fully with authorities and had deployed counselling teams to provide support and intervention for students and staff affected by the incident.
The department also reminded the public not to speculate or share unverified information that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Balogun was sent off during the United States' 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina after a VAR review determined he had stepped on defender Tarik Muharemović's foot.
Under FIFA rules, a straight red card automatically results in a one-match suspension, with no avenue for appeal by the player's national team. The Arsenal academy graduate had accepted that he would miss the clash against Belgium, describing it as "something I have to just accept."
However, FIFA announced on Sunday that the suspension would instead be placed on probation for one year under Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This means Balogun remains eligible to play immediately and would only serve the suspension if he commits another similar offence within the next 12 months.
FIFA did not provide any detailed explanation beyond citing Article 27.
Reports Claim Trump Personally Contacted FIFA

According to AFP, Reuters, The New York Times and The Guardian, President Donald Trump personally called FIFA President Gianni Infantino shortly after Balogun's dismissal and urged him to review the punishment.

Trump later welcomed the outcome on Truth Social, writing:
"Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!"
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also publicly criticised the red card and called for the suspension to be reconsidered.
Although FIFA has not confirmed whether the reported conversations influenced the disciplinary committee's decision, the reports have fuelled questions about possible political involvement in football governance.

The Royal Belgian Football Association described FIFA's decision as "astonishing", arguing that it contradicts the governing body's own competition regulations regarding automatic suspensions.
The association said it was exploring all available legal options to defend the integrity of the tournament and the principle of fair play.
Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia mocked the announcement, joking that he "didn't know 5 July had become 1 April", comparing it to an April Fool's joke.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also admitted the late reversal came as a surprise, saying Belgium would have preferred earlier clarification to better prepare for the match.
USA Welcome Balogun's Return

The decision has been warmly received by the United States camp.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino maintained that Balogun's red card had been excessively harsh, describing the punishment as unfair for what he believed was an accidental challenge. Captain Christian Pulisic called Balogun's return "a huge boost", while US Soccer also welcomed FIFA's decision.
Balogun has scored three goals during the tournament and has been one of the United States' standout performers as the co-hosts target their first World Cup quarter-final appearance since 2002.
Questions Over FIFA's Consistency

The decision has also prompted wider questions about consistency in FIFA's disciplinary process.
While Article 27 allows disciplinary sanctions to be suspended under certain circumstances, critics have pointed out that other players sent off during the tournament have all served their automatic bans. Former England defender Micah Richards criticised the ruling, arguing that it undermines confidence in the competition's disciplinary system.
The Royal Belgian Football Association also questioned why FIFA used its disciplinary code to override regulations stating that players receiving red cards are automatically suspended for the following match.
Rare Move At A World Cup

There is some precedent for suspended bans under FIFA rules.
Cristiano Ronaldo previously had part of a suspension deferred following a red card during World Cup qualifying, allowing him to feature at the tournament.
However, Balogun's case is considered far more unusual because the incident occurred during the World Cup itself rather than in qualification. Historically, very few players have avoided serving suspensions after being sent off during the tournament.
With Belgium continuing to challenge the decision and questions remaining over the reported involvement of political figures, Balogun's eligibility has become one of the biggest talking points of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Malaysia's crackdown on the misuse of subsidised fuel has resulted in one of its first successful prosecutions under stricter enforcement rules, after a Singaporean driver was fined RM20,000 for illegally purchasing RON95 petrol in Johor.
The case serves as a reminder that while Malaysia's subsidised RON95 fuel is significantly cheaper than premium petrol, it is reserved exclusively for eligible Malaysian motorists and cannot be purchased by foreign-registered vehicles.
Singaporean Driver Pleads Guilty

The man, who is in his 50s, pleaded guilty at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court after being caught filling his Singapore-registered Honda Civic with subsidised RON95 petrol at a petrol station on 9 April.
The offence was uncovered during Op Tiris 4.0, an enforcement operation carried out by officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
Sessions Court Judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim sentenced him to a RM20,000 fine, with an additional three-month jail term if he failed to pay. According to local reports, the driver settled the fine on the very same day.
Why Foreign Vehicles Cannot Buy RON95

Malaysia has prohibited foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing subsidised RON95 petrol since 2010.
The subsidy exists to ensure Malaysian taxpayers benefit from government-funded fuel assistance, with eligible Malaysians currently paying RM1.99 per litre for RON95.
Drivers of foreign-registered vehicles are instead required to purchase RON97, which is sold at market prices.
While the restriction has existed for years, enforcement has become significantly stricter since 1 April 2026.
Previously, legal action was primarily taken against petrol station operators found selling subsidised fuel to foreign vehicles. However, under the revised enforcement measures, authorities can now prosecute both petrol station operators and the owners or drivers of foreign-registered vehicles.
This Johor case is believed to be among the first prosecutions under the tougher approach.
Authorities: Subsidies Must Reach The Right People

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the successful prosecution demonstrates the government's continued commitment to preventing the misuse of controlled goods.
She explained that enforcing the regulations helps protect consumer interests while ensuring Malaysia's subsidised fuel remains available for those it is intended to benefit.
Authorities also reminded the public that purchasing subsidised fuel using a foreign-registered vehicle is an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Under the law, first-time offenders can face fines of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders face even harsher penalties, including fines of up to RM3 million and jail terms of up to five years.
Companies or petrol stations found supplying subsidised fuel illegally may also face fines reaching RM2 million, increasing to RM5 million for repeat offences.
A Costly Attempt To Save On Fuel

Authorities did not reveal how much fuel the driver purchased.
However, the RM20,000 penalty far outweighs any potential savings he could have made by choosing subsidised RON95 instead of RON97.
At the current price of RM4.00 per litre for RON97 in Malaysia, the fine is equivalent to around 5,000 litres of premium petrol &mdash; enough to fill a typical 50-litre passenger vehicle approximately 100 times.
The case highlights just how seriously Malaysian authorities are now treating attempts to misuse the country's fuel subsidy programme.
Malaysia Vs Singapore Fuel Prices

The incident also highlights the significant difference in fuel prices between Malaysia and Singapore.
In Malaysia, eligible motorists currently pay RM1.99 per litre for subsidised RON95, while RON97 costs RM4.00 per litre. Eligible BUDI Diesel recipients are also able to purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre.
In comparison, fuel prices in Singapore are considerably higher due to the absence of fuel subsidies, higher taxes and market-based pricing. Based on current pump prices, petrol in Singapore costs approximately RM9.30 to RM11.30 per litre, depending on the fuel grade and retailer, while diesel is priced at roughly RM9.00 to RM9.70 per litre.
The sizeable price gap has long made Malaysia an attractive destination for motorists crossing the border to refuel. However, Malaysian authorities have reiterated that subsidised RON95 is reserved exclusively for eligible Malaysian motorists, with stricter enforcement now targeting both petrol station operators and foreign drivers who attempt to misuse the subsidy.
